our clubfoot journey : a few of our favorite things

Awhile back I shared our must haves for the baby stages of casting and brace wear. Now that Isley is two I wanted to share a few new favorite things and some of the old ones that are still working for us. Our number one favorite thing is Isley’s Mitchell boots in the pink color! The color gets her excited to wear her shoes and makes the bedtime routine go much smoother. She calls them her “pink shoes” and “night night shoes”. To me this is the cutest thing ever! For you mamas of boys they also come in blue and of course the standard gray color. You can order them from MD Orthopaedics yourself but your doctor should have no problem ordering them for you.

These books have been amazing for us! Isley loves to “read” them herself while she gets her shoes put on. She is typically very good about getting her shoes on but we have had the occasional fussy night and reading one of these books usually does the trick. You can find Wear your boots Ted

and Let us Count The Things
on amazon. My Clever Night-Night Shoes
and Dreamland: Jungle Dream
are next on our list to purchase.

Bar Bumpers are so great! They soften the blow of your child’s bar banging against your legs, protect the bar from damage and protect their crib from damage as well. They are fleece lined and snap on to the bar. The best part is that Bar Bumpers can be personalized with your little ones name and favorite thing!

Isley was getting some pretty bad sores and blistering where the middle strap of her shoe is. We contacted the Orthotics department and they gave us these little miracles. Pressure saddles, sometimes called “pringles” because of their shape, reduce the pressure from the brace and keep the child’s skin healthy.

Oldies but goodies:

1. We are still using the XL size of Halo Sleepsacks. Isley loves them and since she is still in her crib they help a bit with muffling the clanking. I don’t know what we’ll do when she outgrows them!!!

2. Gold Bond Ultimate Comfort Body Powder

- Helps keep little feet dry and helps to prevent blisters while wearing the brace.

3. For socks we are still using Old Navy Little Bundles, Old Navy Crew Socks and Fruit of the Loom crew socks.
