Members throughout the churchs history have shown their commitment to each other through their contributions when someone in the community dies. Everybody brings food in, Maybin said. It was always part of the church. The church also has continued an early tradition of providing gift bags for all those who attend its annual Christmas play. The paper bags are filled each Christmas with candy, fruit and nuts. Homecoming celebrations at Mountain Valley are also popular, festive events each year, Maybin said. She said she has been pleased to see that in recent years new families have joined the congregation, along with many descendants of the churchs original founders. Collecting the past is this couple’s passion

For Joe and Jaki Gonzalez, Neatful Things, their family-run shop in Palmetto Bay, is a labor of love. Finding interesting things from the past to add to their antiques, vintage and collectable items is more than a business its also fun. The fun part and the most interesting part is that you never know what youre going to come across, Joe Gonzalez said. At auctions you never know whats coming up, and what does come up can really give you a nice surprise. I think of this as a little hidden gem, because the plaza were in is hidden in between US1.
