sewing: cherie knit jenna cardigan

This post is written by Alli from B.Yazoo.

All of my knits sewing experience so far has been with… let’s say, budget-friendly fabric. ;) So it was pretty amazing when I got to feel how different and wonderfully soft Art Gallery knits are! My two Cherie knits were cozy, drapey, and smooth. The biggest difference I felt between the Cherie knits and cheaper knits was that the fabric felt the same across printed and unprinted sections. It was definitely soft enough to qualify for inclusion in Meg’s secret pajamas category of clothing!

I fell in love with view B of Muse’s Jenna cardi, and was so excited when Rachael pointed out that I could use the Cherie bicycle print to make a funnyfancy cardigan. I made a test version of view A, loved it, forgot that I also meant to muslin view B, and cut directly into my bicycles. The problem was that even though view A was just my style right off the pattern, view B without alterations is flattering for people with curves I do not have. I needed to the reduce the amount of gathering, oops!

The Jenna cardi pattern itself easy to sew and the instructions are clear. I really like that it has you use regular woven fusible interfacing for the button band since I already have that in my stash. Also, the button band turns out really tidy!

I think that for this version, I should have sewn the back using both fabrics so that it looked like the yoke went all around, but then again, I do love seeing all those bicycles across the back.

I definitely want to keep using nicer knits to sew more Jenna cardis — another view A with Cherie les points rose would be super cool. Now to get myself psyched up to match all those little stripes…!
