Nursery Sources

I shared our nursery reveal the other day, and today am back with the sources. I did a post on the process for choosing the navy paint color, and we went with Benjamin Moore Van Deusen Blue.

Bed: Ikea Malm // Duvet: Ikea Bjornloka // Rug: Target Threshold Fretwork // Prints: DIY // All Star wall hanging: Thrift Store

We already had a twin mattress, and we kind of like the idea of having a bed in there now in case one of us needs more sleep, the other can sleep in there with the baby for night wakings while he’s little. I suspect we’ll both want to be out of there soon enough, though. We’re being flexible with this whole sleep planning thing. I really like the Malm bed because it’s sturdy and I think will look good in there as he gets older. We are hoping it will be a comfortable place for night feedings too.

Crib: Ikea Gulliver // Sheet: Circo Woven Sheet – Dots // Bicycle Print: Target (clearance)

When it came to cribs, I’m just not a big crib person. They all look very similar to me, and I don’t like the more expensive ones all that much more than the inexpensive ones. We decided on the Ikea Gulliver because the price was right, it has been tested heavily for safety, and I’ve read a lot of anecdotal reports that it’s very durable. It comes with the piece to convert it to a toddler bed which is nice. Plus, it’s such a temporary piece of furniture I just couldn’t see spending a lot on it. It’s a full size crib but not a huge footprint which is great for this smaller room.

For the art, I normally don’t love mass produced prints, but had been eyeing the bicycle print at Target for awhile and snagged it the other day when it went on clearance.

Bookcase paint color: Rustoleum Fern Spray Paint // Bins: Ikea Drona // Lamp and shade: Target // Mirror: Kirklands

I’ve had the bookcase since I was a teen and spray painted it Rustoleum Fern (more on that here). I mentioned in my last post that we were originally going to use this as a changing table, but we decided that it might make more sense for us to just change the baby wherever we are at the time. Most of the time we will be in other parts of the house, so I don’t see us climbing up and down the stairs that much for diaper changes, and when we are in the room or at night, we’ll just grab a changing pad and put it on the bed. I’m not totally nixing the idea of making this a changing table, though. If we decide to use it as one, it’s easy enough to attach the changing pad to it.

I’ve never actually bought anything at Kirklands before, but there is one right by the Target that I frequent, and on a whim went in there and found this mirror on clearance. I don’t know why I don’t stop in there more. They have cute things and good prices.

Dresser: Ikea Hemnes 6 Drawer Chest // Drapes: Target

You might be seeing a trend here with the furniture. What can I say, we like Ikea. I think it’s a great place for kids furniture because it’s affordable and decently well made for the price. I’ve always been a fan of the Hemnes line of bedroom furniture. We were originally going to go with a dresser off Craigslist, but I ended up selling it and going with something new. I’ve realized I am just not one who loves using older furniture. I love the idea of it, but not so much in practice (a little more on that here).

Baby still hasn’t made his arrival. I’m due in about a week, so anytime now! We have the nursery ready, Pack n’ Play setup in the living room, Rock n’ Play is also assembled, diaper supplies stocked, house is decorated for Christmas (which we probably won’t take down until March having a new baby around…which I can’t say I will mind), hospital bag is sort of packed, car seat has been installed and inspected, the house is clean and organized, and we even stocked up on some frozen food from Trader Joe’s for those days where we don’t feel like doing more than microwaving. Being a chronic procrastinator, this is the most ahead of the game I think I’ve ever been.

I get a lot of questions from people about how I’m feeling, and in general I’m still feeling pretty well. I have some of the normal aches and pains that come and go, but I’ve been pretty lucky overall. I’m still able to exercise daily, and I get around okay most of the time. Sleeping is harder. I haven’t been all that uncomfortable, but just need to get up a lot, and I seem to have a hard time getting back to sleep. I guess this is nature’s way of preparing me for what will soon be lots of night wake ups.
