Keep Calm and Watch Movies

“What movie made you fall in love with watching movies?”

This one’s a no brainer.

This movie! <3

Definitely 13 Going on 30.

(I have at least five friends who can answer that for me without any hesitation. It’s the movie that would make a close friend/classmate/acquaintance text/PM/tweet/DM me out of the blue if they see it on cable TV.)

I was a bookworm when I was a kid, so it took me a while to appreciate watching movies. I have a very short attention span when it comes to watching films and television series. Hello, it took me three attempts to finish Prison Break (and I was promptly hooked after completing the pilot) and that says a lot about me, considering how interesting that show was. I guess this Jennifer Garner starrer came in at the right time, as my reads in the early 2000s slowly transitioned from Sweet Valley books to local glossy magazines.

How can someone like me who dreams of making it in the publishing industry not love a girl who becomes a “big-time magazine editor?” Jenna Rink fast-tracked her way to her dream, although we quickly saw the unglamorous and depressing side of her “new” world, and how it changed her life drastically.

Then there’s the unforgettable “Thriller” sequence…

…and something about love that every girl must know, whether they are 13 or 30:

The magical realism aspects worked well for this movie. Even though Jenna did some really questionable things, the audience can put the blame on the time lapse. I was perfectly fine with giving Jenna and Matt a happy ending, complete with the dollhouse and a pack of Razzles. Who doesn’t like happy endings?

AND THIS. Easily the best sequence of this movie:

I have to admit that a part of me must be swayed by the soundtrack too. “Crazy For You” “Why Can’t I?” = pop perfection.

I’d love to watch more movies in the cinema (so that I have no choice but to stick it out in the first few minutes of the flick, ha!), but it’s such a chore to buy tickets. My friend and I had to plan our schedule ahead of time for the weekend screening of XMen: Days of Future Past. She had to go all the way to Bonifacio High Street three days in advance just so we can secure seats in the 3D/ATMOS theater. Prior to that movie, we weren’t able to watch Starting Over Again on its first week (TriNoma weekend crowd x queuing around noon = no more good seats up to the last full show–crazy!). We got lucky with Divergent, though, because we were at the mall a few hours before the available screening time.

I go like this when I see the queue for movie tickets.

I’m hoping that this new app called GMovies can actually make things easier for us.

GMovies app installed!

Here’s GMovies in a few sentences:

A first and only one of its kind in the country, GMovies allows you to begin your movie going experience anytime, anywhere! Stay updated with the current and upcoming movie releases on cinemas nationwide, get the best seats and buy your movie tickets straight on your smartphones! Powered by Globe Telecom, this film-tastic mobile app is FREE for download for both Android and iOS users.

See that phrase in bold? Less hassle, less effort, and we get to save precious time. Not to mention that I prefer watching in Ayala Cinemas and I’m a loyal Globe subscriber.

:D
