Foundation Series (2): NARS Sheer Glow

NARS Sheer Glow is one I’ve heard a lot of excitable chatter over. The foundation comes in a glass square bottle with the familiar NARS matte finish on the lid but it is on the bulky side so not one to lug around in your travels. I’m shade Syracuse by the way. Exotic, huh?

Surprisingly it does not come with a pump. I’m not sure if it’s an optional purchase (I wasn’t told about it if it is) but if no such thing exists then this is a big boo-boo from NARS. Tapping it onto the back of your hand sets things up for a mess or too much flowing out. Why it doesn’t come with a pump is a mystery. A pump controls how much you choose to use and it’s also hygienic. Tut, tut, monsieur François Nars.

Any way, as a foundation, I do like the texture and how it looks on my skin. The shade is on the slightly yellow side however, (like MAC). I tried the one below but that was a tad too light so my skin tone sits awkwardly on the NARS Sheer Glow colour wheel. It blends quickly with no streakiness and is buildable for full coverage.

The formula is thick but not a gel like MAC’s Studio Sculpt, which this has been compared to. Studio Sculpt used to be a regular fixture in my make-up routine a few years ago (then I ditched it for Illamaqua’s Skin Base). I did think from the name of it the consistency would be sheer but it’s more to do with the ‘sheer glow’ it gives your face.

I also have to give a shout out to NARS’ Radiant Creamy Concealer, another one that’s been on my must-buy list for ages. Finding a concealer that doesn’t crease under the eyes is a pain and begrudgingly I’ve been using a MAC Pro’s Longwear Concealer and Illamasqua’s Skin Base Life Concealer alternately, all of which match perfectly but crease or wear off quickly.

NARS’ Radiant Creamy Concealer is perfect for everyday wear. Enriched with hydrating, multi-action skincare benefits and light diffusing technology, it is lusciously creamy, blending in effortlessly to give a luminous finish and brightening the eye area at the same time. And it kicks the dark circles to the curb. It comes with a sponge-tip applicator that you can dab on and then blend with a brush or your ring finger. My match is Caramel.

NARS’ Sheer Glow costs £31 and is available online, at NARS’ counters and at Space NK stores and their website, and Radiant Creamy Concealer is £22.

Coverage: medium
Verdict: very good but where’s the pump?

UPDATE: I’ve been informed a foundation pump is sold separately so do ask if you need one unless you’re prompted.
