RMK Cleansing Balm

RMK is a luxurious Japanese brand of skincare and cosmetics, one that is understandably popular but alien to the likes of me (especially the make-up). Generally their cosmetics line is too light for me but their skincare is accessible. One of their most popular products is the Cleansing Balm*, a solid balm in a baby pink pot that melts in contact with the skin. Enriched with Damascus Rose oil it’s supposed to be ideal for mature skin types but by the looks of the rave reviews it’s received online on various retail outlets, seems to be highly appreciated by all ages.

Its key ingredient of Damascus Rose oil is prominent in the product’s scent but it also helps to repair skin, sooth irritation, inflammation and breakouts and also sooth away stress and tension. I know rose is a great source in skincare – rose water alone is a wonderful, natural toner.

The balm contains grapeseed and avocado oil to nourish and hydrate skin as well. It’s not an oily balm like Emma Hardie’s Amazing Face Moringa Cleansing Balm and Elemis’ Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm, yet it does remove make-up, leaving skin silky soft, cleansed and hydrated. I have found if you are dealing with mascara and eyeliner then a couple of attempts are required for a thorough cleanse. I also used this balm during my holiday even though I didn’t wear make-up for two weeks.

On the back of the hype surrounding it, I was expecting something spectacular but in truth it’s alright. I feel other cleansing balms perform better – RMK isn’t amazingly special, in fact I didn’t think it made my skin glow and for £29 for a 100g pot, it’s not particularly cheap. I appreciate it works for others, it just didn’t blow me away. Sahrry!

RMK’s Cleansing Balm is available in Selfridges as well as online at Beauty Bay and Look Fantastic.
