Ojo de dios, (eye of god, in Spanish) is more than a crafternoon activity. It’s a spiritual object and has the power to see and understand what the physical eye can not. The gods eye was traditionally used as a blessing, designed to bless a new home or for a celebration and usually gifted.
Traditionally woven in solitude for extended meditation or prayer, they were also woven during learning circles in New Mexico for young people with their elders. Today we see them woven for a craft with children and used as decoration. I myself, love the spiritual aspect of a gods eye and believe they can be woven amongst children while incorporating a learning/wisdom circle. Any opportunity to communicate with children is a positive moment.
