The other night, my mate Sheahan tweeted me that he couldn’t wait for ‘Bria’s Interlude’, which sent me into a mild panic, because I could tell that his feelings for this song were strong, and mine…not so much. I think it’s cool, but it’s not one I’ve ever paid much attention to. I know that Sheahan is much cooler than me though (he and his missus run their own mean as design studio Sorbet), so I knew he’d be able shed a different light on the song. I’ve copy and pasted our lil facebook convo about why Sheahan loves this song, and I gotta say, his enthusiasm has def rubbed off on me.

Sheahan : I remember first hearing it and just really being like, this is too mean, that helicopter sample, the fact Omarion sounded mean, and couldn’t actually tell it’s Drake, ah.

Lani : An actual helicopter? I’m listening again now.

Sheahan : It’s an actual helicopter, if you listen at the start of Drake’s verse, it’s a

Lani : Ah true, you know I think I always subconsciously thought it was like, birds wings fluttering or something. But that’s cos I thought the hook was talking about buzzing bees, which it’s not – so…yeah.

Sheahan : I dunno, I just remember listening to this on a plane and feeling some type of way. It was kinda like, “Oh wow, Omarion”, in the same kinda way I was like “Oh wow, Chris Brown” on Pusha’s

Lani : So you were hearing Omarion in a way you didn’t expect?

Sheahan : And likewise with Drake, I just never imagined a Drake and Omarion song to sound like this for some reason.

Lani : Yeah you’re right, when I saw the name Omarion, this is not what I was expecting. I was hoping for ‘Ice Box’, but was expecting ‘Entourage’, haha.

Sheahan : Plus the little ad-libs, like the “I’m soo”, I was like dayum, Omarion going in. It’s just got a certain feeling. It’s just classic Drake, straight to the point, saying shit that most guys wouldn’t dare say out loud.

It shows how useless I am at picking samples, cos I love this Missy song, but never even clicked, and it’s pretty damn obvious when I listen to it haha!
