Project Nursery: The Work

What does a girl do when she waits so long to be able to decorate a nursery. There are WAY too many options out there with pinterest. I can see how anyone could get overwhelmed trying to piece together an entire nursery, especially with a 9 month timeline!! Lucky us we had just a couple weeks to do it all before our home study! Yep, nothing is ever "normal" in my life, it's got to be done the hard way. It does help that we have to stay neutral because we are not sure which gender we will get through foster care, so it helped me to go with simple grey, white and yellow. There are way too many photos for one post so I will do the work in this post and the reveal in the next.
We first completely gutted the room. Took out the carpet, the popcorn off the ceiling and repainted it all.

We were lucky enough to find a crib, changing table and dresser at a garage sale for $50 and we got a free toddler bed from my cousin. We stained them all and they were good to go! And of course we made a trip to ikea and got a super cute toy chest, table and chairs.

My very first idea for the nursery was this wall bookshelf that I have seen on pinterest and so I asked my grandparents if they could build the shelves and install. I sent them a picture and they literally made the most perfect, exactly what was in my head, shelves. They did AWESOME work, I so appreciate them!

The chalkboard wall, the most overdone thing on pinterest... I'm sorry but I had to have one, especially in a kids room! I painted the closet doors which were old mirrors and made it into a giant chalkboard and it was already a huge hit with my niece.

And lastly we painted the gray stripes and installed the carpet. We also added some birch tree decals that I found at target that made the room really come to life.

The next post will be the reveal so don't forget to check it out!
