Our Top 8 DIY Ribbon Projects

If you’ve followed any of our posts, our love of ribbon and it’s versatility is known, and we thought now would be a great time to revisit some of our favorite ways to use ribbon in this post, Our Top 8 DIY Ribbon Projects.

1. Holiday Decor

Festive ribbon is a beautiful way to add holiday cheer to an seasonal DIY projects or decor. We used holiday reds and greens when we created our two styles of DIY ribbon wreaths during December of last year, but they can also accent gifts, or be decor all on their own when tied in a beautiful bow!

See our DIY Ribbon Wreath Blog Post HERE.

2. Table Accents

This is one of our really unique DIY ribbon projects. Opting for a creative take on table decor, instead of using a runner, we created a stylish and unique accent to the tablecloth by layering several different types of ribbon. This look was designed for holiday seasons, but it could easily be customized to suit any decor style or theme by choosing different ribbon materials or colors.

See how we created this look in our Holiday Ribbon Tablescape Blog Post HERE.

3. Curtains and Backdrops

Dressing up ugly walls of venues or even just a plain wall in your home is easy with this super simple DIY ribbon curtain. With a few different colors of ribbon rolls, and a curtain rod or pvc pipe, you can have this ribbon backdrop hanging within a day. Change the blue ribbon for colors that match your color palette or venue for easy customization!

4. DIY Project Accents

While ribbon can certainly be beautiful enough to create decor on its own, it’s also usually the perfect finishing touch to our DIY projects. Like the sweet bows that adorn our Valentine’s mason jars above, choosing matching ribbon to accent your DIY crafts can really help give your projects the completed, finished look you want. For this project, easily change paint and ribbon colors, and choose a different silhouette in the middle to personalize these mason jars to your style.

5. Hanging Decor

Ribbon also is an excellent option for replacing twine, string, or rope when hanging decor. Like we did for our hanging decor chandelier, and our DIY paper doily banner we opted to use a pretty, stylish ribbon that would compliment the decor in a venue, instead of an unsightly string that would have distracted. With the unbelievable variety of ribbon that exists, replacing ugly strings on existing decor or customizing DIY projects further is as simple as choosing the ribbon you like.

6. Chair Accents

If chair covers aren’t your style and you’re working with pretty chairs for your event, using ribbon or lace as an accent to your theme is an inexpensive but beautiful option. With a few simple strands of unique ribbon like we did above is an easy to execute option, or create a fuller look by layering ribbon strands of various colors and material.

7. Favors

Accenting adorable gift boxes or favor bags is a timeless and sweet use for ribbon for sure, but using it again as a part of your favor will make it truly unique. For this project we create small favors using jumbo balloons by adding color coordinating ribbon strands for guests to hold when they have blown their balloons up. Replacing ribbon for string or ties whenever possible is always an easy way to put your personal touch on projects.

8. Customizing Votives

Finally but most certainly not least, customizing votives with ribbon is a perfect way to add small but noticeable personal touches to event or home decor. Above we created a cinnamon stick votive that’s perfect for winter months by gluing cinnamon sticks to a simple glass votive and tying with a seasonal ribbon color. You could also wrap plain glass votives in a nice satin ribbon, lace ribbon, or burlap ribbon to create a stylish candle display that suits your styles and themes.
