Avene Cicalfate Repair Cream

If there’s one thing I’m guilty of when it comes to blogging, it’s using up my most loved products before I get round to talking about them – or simply overlooking them. They’re rarely the shiny new launch, more often the indispensable little product that makes itself part of the landscape of your sideboard, makeup bag or desk drawer to the point you barely notice its brilliance anymore.

Case in point: Avene Cicalfate Repair Cream. Unassuming metal tubes of thick white emollient that I rattle through every few months, like a grown up (and, in my opinion, better) Sudocream, ready to rescue skin from a multitude of beauty mishaps; overenthusiastic use of exfoliators and acids, that blemish that you successfully turned from molehill to mountain with fifteen minutes of obsessive prodding, sore cuticles, hair removal mishaps…the lot.

The zinc content helps to hurry along skin repair and the emollient texture feels like a comfort blanket on stressed skin (I occasionally smear a thin layer over my face to leave on overnight – or in a stripe on the affected area like Nelly circa 2002). It does contain mineral oil, but after some kind of mishap I find my skin benefits from a bit of a ‘barrier’ effect.

Tubes come in at about £6 (probably less in French pharmacies) – not bad for a reliable skin saviour.
