WE'RE HOME SCHOOLING HERE: SEND HELP

One day you're lazily lying on a beach watching turtles bob their little heads out of the lapping waves and the next you and your boys are tunneling through shark infested waters. These things they happen? When homeschooling?
The conversation went a little something like this: Move to Maui? Two months before school gets out? No worries. We could, you know... home school?
A few false starts here, a tossing out of a curriculum or two or three there and suddenly that little dip of a pinky toe is a full fledged plunge into the deep end.

Home schooling isn't for everyone, trust me, I know. But it is for us, for now, you know? It's kind of sort of this incredible way to get out and see this place, I mean, really see it. Freestyle. With out the rigidity of school days and homework and such we're sort of opened up to this endless sort of learning.
And despite the fact that every once in a while, like most Mondays, nearly every Tuesday and the occasional Wednesday, I send out mental S.O.S.'s, All. Day. Long., I do love the time it affords me with the boys and the boys with each other and us with this little magical isle that Maui just really is. Really.

One of our favorite places to learn without realizing it... The Maui Ocean Center. If that isn't just like walking right into a big fat textbook of real life awesomeness. There are tanks to look into and tanks to reach into and tanks to walk yourself right through and suddenly it's all a blur of curious creatures looking in at creatures looking out.
We lose hours to that place. Hours that are happily laid out there, a sacrifice to the wandering ways of lifelong learning and childhood.

These days here, they are a passing, too quickly I'm sure. And while silly little things like blogging and careers and such have been set, indefinitely, aside I'd like to think it's been worth it in some sort of way. To collect a part of a childhood there in the hastily scratched notes of a workbook turned field journal. You know? That one spring when we held our breaths, jumped off into the deep end and learned to swim. Together.

Be well.
Live Sweet, n

Thank you to our sweet Nona and Grandpa who sent us a year long membership to That Maui Ocean Center, here.
It means we practically get to live there, forever, and we love you for that.
