BARBARA LANGENDIJK

images of Barbara’s Graduation collection by Jochem Esser

Amsterdam fashion week has just ended and this might have been one of the best editions yet.
The fact that there aren’t many established names participating, brings even more focus to the actual clothes and talents.

My personal favorite designer who showed on Amsterdam fashion was Barbara Langendijk. For her graduation and also during AFW she presented Japanese inspired garments with silhouettes that could be changed by the wearer; by draping and clipping them in different forms. She traveled to Japan where she learned about traditional local crafts and natural materials. What also struck me was how Barbara simplified the construction of her garments, getting rid of the usual closures, zippers, buttons and exploring other techniques to replace these twisting, folding and wrapping the fabric around the body.
