The New York Times' Invisible Child Series

Dasani speaks with certainty. She often begins a sentence with “Mommy say” before reciting, verbatim, some new bit of learned wisdom, such as “chamomile tea cures a bad stomach” or “that lady is a dope fiend.” She likes facts. She rarely wavers, or hints at doubt, even as her life is consumed by it.

The Way It Was

...a man who assisted in autopsies in a big urban hospital, starting in the mid-1950s, describes the many deaths from botched abortions that he saw. "The deaths stopped overnight in 1973." He never saw another in the 18 years before he retired. "That," he says, "ought to tell people something about keeping abortion legal."

The Collections of Artists

Most were trades, though a cut-paper collage by Ray Johnson was a purchase. One section of the work is blank, removed by the artist after Close requested a 20 percent discount.

Dealer's Hands

"One of the reasons there’s so much talk about money is that it’s so much easier to talk about than the art..."

The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt.

It is magnificent. Not since Mingus Rude have I both rooted for and disliked a protagonist so much.
