What ingredients make up your wellness story?

Earlier this year, when I said that I wanted to rest, reset and renew, I was serious. During the last half of last year, I realized that I fell away from many of the “ingredients” that lead to health and wellness. Instead, I’ve focused exclusively on one or two things while ignoring the others.

On the outside, I might have looked like a picture of health – running, PRs, yoga – but I definitely wasn’t (and still am not). And when we place too much burden on any one thing, that thing tends to break down. And that’s something that I’ve had way too much experience with. Hello shoulder.

One of the things that I’m trying to focus on is identifying what are the key “ingredients” in my life that make up my wellness story, getting back to the basics and rebuilding my foundation of wellness – good nutrition, varied physical activity, health, rest and recovery. But it also includes other elements that we might not immediately think of. Things like gratitude, mental clarity, a good support system, family and friends.

Because it’s the “ingredients” that matter right? If your foundation is built on junk, it’s only so long before it all falls down. With quality ingredients, you weave a much stronger and tighter web that defines your wellness story.

The focus on quality ingredients is core of Orgain’s wellness story. It’s not just a marketing schtick. The founder’s life depended on it.

Orgain was developed by Dr. Andrew Abraham. At 18, he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer and underwent 12 months of chemotherapy. One of the biggest challenges to his recovery was that he couldn’t eat, relying on nutritional shakes that tasted awful and contained ingredients that aren’t great for the body.

So, he set out to create his own shakes using good, quality ingredients. He started feeling better, gaining energy and strength.

I first learned about Orgain about five years ago from a personal trainer I worked with. Usually, I write off what trainers say about nutrition (Sorry! It’s true!) but when she mentioned that this product was developed by a doctor, I took a closer look.

I’ve tried nutritional shakes before and hated them. They taste chalky, gross, sticky sweet and way too artificial. This? This tastes like chocolate milk and even though it has dairy in it, it doesn’t make my stomach feel sick like it does after I drink regular chocolate milk.

Orgain’s story is really a celebration of health, wellness and life itself. That’s why I’m so excited and honored to be Orgain’s Blogger Ambassador. Over the next three months, I’ll be taking a closer look at the “ingredients” that make up my wellness story.

I’d love for you to share your stories too! Join the conversation and share your wellness story here on the blog, Facebook or social media using the hashtag #HowIOrgain.
