Mom Fashion: How to be Comfortable and Cute

When you hear the term ‘mom fashion’ or ‘mom style’ it usually has a little negative connotation that comes with it. The high waisted jeans that aren’t flattering on anyone with the sneakers and scrunchie. Anyone else getting visions of a typical ’80’s mom? I asked on Facebook, and you guys all said the same thing! There wasn’t one person who thought of ‘mom fashion’ in a positive light. Well, probably mostly thanks to Pinterest, ‘mom fashion’ doesn’t have to be a negative thing anymore!

There are ways you can be cozy, comfortable, and cute without looking like you just rolled out of bed. You don’t have to wear stilettos or crop tops to be fashionable. You can be modest and practical and stylish. They are not mutually exclusive. If you’re looking for a way to wear stilettos to the park, more power to ya, I for one, will be rockin’ my chucks.

But it’s cool. To each their own, right? But here on this lil ole blog, I try to stay true to who I am. I love to dress up as much as the next girl, but for me there has to be a legit reason. In the meantime, the day-to-day, drive my kids around, cook dinner & clean up life, I still want to look stylish, I just really want to be comfortable also. So I thought I’d start a little series here on the blog highlighting ways to be cute, stylish, comfortable, and practical! Whaddayasay?! Let’s refine ‘mom fashion!’

Mom Fashion: How to be comfortable and cute

I thought I’d turn this into a mini series of sorts talking about different items that are totally cute and extremely comfortable. First up – the oversized sweater. When you pair an oversized sweater with a pair of leggings, leggings (depending on the length of the sweater), or skinny jeans, it makes the perfect combo. You want to stay away from having baggy on top and baggy on the bottom. So in this case since the sweater is a bit oversized, go for the skinny bottoms.

These leggings are from No nonsense and they’re fabulous. They’re denim so they are thicker and you definitely cannot see through them, and they even have back pockets! A little roll at the bottom and no one would ever know you left your house in some dressed up yoga pants! The sweater is a favorite of mine, I would like to wear it every day but apparently that’s frowned upon… It’s from H&M, I’m not sure this one is exactly the same, but really similar. The boots are Clark’s so even though they have a little heel, they are very comfortable!

For a little more sweater inspiration I’ve put together a simple outfit that is acceptable mom fashion. It’s “mom style” that doesn’t live up to it’s name! It’s actually cute & practical.

Loose on top, ‘skinny’ on the bottom, pair of booties, cute big bag, some simple jewelry and you’re good to go! Here’s the links for everything in this look.

By the way, I hesitated to add those pair of skinny jeans up there because the model is really skinny. I’m going to venture to say most of us aren’t that slim. That’s okay! By ‘skinny’ I am just referring to the jeans/leggings/jeggings being fitted so that the whole look isn’t over all baggy.

Is this a style you rock often? If not, add it to your list! I am going to try to delve into comfortable fashion each week so we can rework this whole ‘mom fashion’ definition and create some cute outfits! Are ya with me?!
