Cider Donuts Topped with Cinnamon Sugar

Burley and I are brunch people. We absolutely love going out for brunch or staying in to cook extravagant breakfasts on the weekends. It’s kind of a thing that we just started doing and have always done. However, we do tend to get stuck on the same ol’ same ol’ pretty quick. Whether that means the same ol’ breakfast joint or the same ol’ meal cooked over and over again.

This weekend, however, I was inspired.

About a year ago (yup… a year) my mom gave all of us kids this cider donut mix as a stocking stuffer. We are all from New England, so she thoughtfully picked it up from a beautiful mill in Vermont, a major producer of apple cider in the north.

I am not really one for baking, so I have kept it in the closet. Sorry Mom.

But the other day, I spotted this mix out of the corner of my eye. I don’t know if it was the nostalgic type face on the bag, or the nip of fall in the air, but I knew I just HAD to make these donuts. My sister-in-law was coming into town that weekend so boom. Cider Donut mania.

The bag made 30 donuts… So naturally I ate 25 and let Burley and my sister in on the last 5…

Muhaha.

In actuality, there were so many freakin donuts from this one package, that we ate more than we even needed, and shared a few plates with the neighbors!! Talk about fish and loaves…

If you want to try and make these puppies from scratch, I found some delicious and similar looking recipes here, here, and here. Or, if you want to support a beautiful old mill up north, you can also buy the same exact mix for only $8 bucks a bag, here.

Cheers to a worthwhile fall indulgence.
