Skating at Evergreen Brick Works

This week I accompanied one of my friends to Evergreen Brick Works for an afternoon of skating. I was really excited to go there because I'd never been but heard a lot of wonderful things about the place. Evergreen Brick Works, as described on their website, "is a community environmental centre that inspires and equips visitors to live, work and play more sustainably." The heritage buildings were transformed into space for a variety of festivals, workshops, and of course, a skating rink.

The skating rink is located under a roof although you aren't enclosed fully inside, so it's very cold still. It's an interesting experience to be quite honest. The ice quality wasn't that great, so if you're someone who is still learning to skate (like my friend), the rink isn't the best idea. They don't have proper ice cleaning facilities, so it's very choppy, and not a smooth glide. The ice rink itself is very beautiful, but the ice, not so much.

Either way, it was still a lovely place to spend some time, and walking around the buildings was really interesting as well. Since it's located in the Don Valley, you feel like you've left Toronto for a bit, and escaped into the wilderness.

Do you like going skating?

My skates are CCM Champion Deluxe skates that I got many years ago at Canadian Tire, but they don't sell them anymore unfortunately.
