Holiday Burlesque Workshop … with ME!!

So this is happening!

This all came together over the past 24 hours. Room to Move is my sis-in-law’s studio, and one of her students asked if she had any burlesque classes coming up. My sis-in-law threw out the idea to me of doing a holiday burlesque workshop at the studio. My initial reaction was “what? me? teach?” But once I thought about it for like 30 seconds, my reaction became “that sounds super fun!”

So, it’s happening. Sunday, December 21. If you look up the location, yes, it’s very far south of the city (that’s the area I grew up, and where the other 4 members of my family of origin still live). But you can carpool with me if you’re coming from the city. And my sis-in-law’s studio is awesome and also really big. I’ve been in my share of cramped dance studios and this is not one of them.

I can promise that it will be fun and judgement free. And absolutely NO experience is necessary – in burlesque or dance. I’m putting together the choreography and it will be simple, and we’ll start the class with a warm-up and learn some basic burlesque moves. I’m envisioning using a tinsel garland as a boa. It’ll be adroably sexy. I hope. And no nudity. Wear normal workout clothes (like what you’d wear to yoga) and I’ll message everyone in advance if you need to bring a skirt or something that you’ll wear over your clothes and remove in the choreography.

So, if you’ve ever wanted to try burlesque, now is your chance! No commitment to a full session, no judgement (not that you would be judged in other burlesque classes), no performing for anyone other than the ladies in the workshop, and whoever you share this with afterward behind closed doors ;-) And of course I’ll be there, and hopefully some of my wacky friends will be too.

Also, I think I’m going with Kitten von Purr as my stage name … what do you think? I’ve been rolling it around in my head for awhile. I’m sure there will be a Crazy Cat Lady number in my future.
