Timesaving Tricks for Organizing Kids’ Clothes

For years these two EASY tips for organizing kids’ clothing have saved us tons of time and kept my sanity intact. If you only read two tips this month in our organizing and decluttering challenge, and you have young kids, I hope it’s these! We are a busy, lively household so anything we can do to simplify our lives, such as these two tricks, is a win in my book.

Tip #1: Roll Your Clothes

I’ve used this tip since my kids were babies, and my daughter is a youth size 6 now and it STILL works– ROLL THEIR CLOTHING and place into drawers. We do this for all the kids’ clothing, and it makes it easy to both fold their laundry and see each piece of clothing in their dresser drawers. They fit three wide in the smaller drawers, and MUCH wider in our largest drawers.

It’s so easy to grab the perfect piece of clothing this way. Another bonus is I don’t have to refold. No one is digging for what they need– they can see it all.

As for organizing pants/ bottoms, I use plastic shoe bins to separate the various types. Here are my daughters: one holds heavy pants like jeans, one holds sporty pants, and the other leggings. In summer it’s shorts, capris, and bathing suits (sounds lovely right about now, right?)

I have similar bins for underwear and socks. Socks missing their mate go right next to that bin, waiting for it’s friend to arrive.

Also makes packing a breeze. Simple lift out and place in a suitcase. BOOM. Let’s go!

Tip #2: Set Out Clothing for the Entire Week on Sunday Night

This is a tip I started using when my kids started school, and it ROCKS. My goal is that by Sunday I’ll have the majority of the laundry put away, so that Sunday night I set out 5 days worth of clothing (7 days if I’m feeling ambitious). EVERYTHING gets put out– tops, bottoms, undergarments, and socks. I can see in a glance if I need to do a load of socks or anything else that’s missing.

It also increases the chances of locating a matching outfit. When all the laundry is done and it’s easy to see (tip #1), then I get to pick the best of the best.

No more scrambling around 5 minutes before we leave looking for clean underwear. Plus the kids can dress themselves, it’s all right there. No danger of shorts in winter or clashing clothing. I am not kidding, this one tip has saved us about 30 minutes and uncounted chaos each week!

With these two tips in place, the one area of my life where I feel MOST organized is kids’ clothing. Which is good, because we have a lot of it– for practically free (and you can too!)

Tomorrow, we’ll tackle part two of organizing kids’ clothing: the closets! Do you have a favorite kids’ organizing tip to share? And did you see the incredible giveaway happening this week? Head on over to enter to win your own Samsung tablet!!
