NYX Highlight & Contour Pro Palette
NYX Highlight & Contour Pro Palette is one of the most affordable contour palettes to hit the shelves as of late, and it's also the only affordable palette with interchangeable powders. At $25, it includes 8 pans, but the brand has announced that they will be offering more shades in the near future.
Included in the shade mix are 4 highlighters, and 4 contour powders. Of the highlighters, two are shimmery, and include both a frosted pink-leaning white and champagne. The other two are similar to setting powders - one with yellow undertones, and the other is neutral. Each of the highlight powders are very smooth, yet have a slight chalkiness to them. While it might sounds like an unexpected combination, it made for powders that applied smoothly, and kicked up a lot of product during application, but sunk into fine lines throughout wear - not a look I recommend.
The contour powders put on a better performance, and even include cooler taupe shades - something quite a few of the contour palette currently out seem to neglect. However, despite looking relatively distinct in their pans, each of the shades included look extremely similar when applied. I would have liked to see more variety to flatter a wider range of skin tones.
Despite the lower price tag, I'm not sure NYX's new palette is worth it for everyone. The contour powders lean cooler than some might like, without offering a warmer alternative, and those that struggle with powders creasing in fine lines (especially around the eyes) might want to avoid the two matte highlighters altogether. It could make for quite a bit of wasted product if you find that only half of the shades are actually useful to you.
