meet.make.crochet-along: hexagon table runners.

Amidst all the baby crocheting, the two of us decided we wanted take a little break to work on Alicia's August crochet-along project. The hexagon table runner seemed like a great stash buster, and the hexagons didn't seem like they would be taxing to whip up quickly.

*Siiiigh* Granny squares.. I love. The perfect project to use some of your leftover yarn! There are just so many possibilities with granny square shapes, like the ones seen with our pillow covers, my laptop cozy and an upcoming baby blanket for my new niece! Needless to say, I was a 'go' for this particular crochet-a-long.

Strange, but lately it seems like my crochet projects revolve around Easter colours..As you'll probably find in upcoming posts. Oh well I'll go with it!

I really wasn't sure how many hexagons I wanted to create for the project, but after crocheting three in each chosen colour, I ended up with 18.
When I began securing the hexagons I quickly realized I didn't stitch them quite like the described table runner in the pattern..oops! Mine ended up more horizontal, than vertical... Again, let's go with it!
I attached the hexagons with a single crochet stitch into the back loops of the shapes, and finished with a treble crochet border around the entire piece. The pattern called for another single crochet round, however with all of our baby projects on the go, I ran out of time!

I'm not quite sure where my table runner is going to end up in my place, but I think it's definitely something I will be proud to put on display.

When I saw this project I knew that I wouldn't make it exactly as described, but I was really looking forward to coming up with something with the hexagon shapes. I had a whole bunch of leftover Caron Simply Soft in different colours, so decided to use grey as a base, with mint, white, and neon coral borders. It's a bit of a different colour combo, but I like it!

I originally intended to make more then six hexagons, but somehow life got in the way! It worked out though, the 6 hexagons laid out nicely in a triangle shape. After finishing my polka dot granny square baby blanket, I had NO desire to stitch together the shapes, so this was my lazy attempt at joining them.

This is going to find a home in my office at work, as a placemat under a plant I have on top of a filing cabinet. I have been wanting to do a bit of office decorating and this is a great first step!
