When ModCloth contacted me to participate in their Uniquely You campaign I was excited for the challenge. When I found out that the item I was being asked to style was the Following Dreams Sweater, I was delighted. Since I already own this sweater this challenge has a more practical purpose to me than just blithely picking pieces to create a Polyvore board. It gave me the opportunity to “try out” multiple outfits without any investment. Polyvore is great for that, by the way. You can create a whole outfit, swapping out pieces as much as you like BEFORE you buy. All from the comfort of your own home. I love the internet.

An added bonus of creating a Polyvore board is it gives you time to think. I think we have all been subject to buyers remorse. It looked great in the store, but sometime between leaving the store and sitting in your closet, the spell wore off. Leaving you, meh…

(I think stores have magic mirrors. Clothes always look better there than when you get home. You ever notice that?)

With Polyvore I can create an outfit, save it and then let it stew for a day or two. If the flavors have melded and I still like it, then it is probably a safe buy. But, if the stew tastes off and has me wondering what the heck I was thinking throwing cumin in there(?), then it is probably best to just walk away. With Polyvore I can do that. And I did.

The first look I chose is an easy everyday style with classic details. I think it would be appropriate for most situations. I would wear this running errands, getting groceries, out to dinner with Mister, lunch with the girls, meeting clients, going to church, pretty much everywhere.

It works particularly well for this time of year in Wisconsin since the weather fluctuates quite a bit throughout the day. It is frosty in the morning, warms up by afternoon, and then dips again before nightfall. Layers are a must.

The coat keeps you warm in the morning and evening and the sweater is just enough to get you comfortably through the afternoon without being too heavy with your coat on. I chose socks instead of tights because they can easily be peeled off and stuck in your handbag if the day gets unexpectedly warmer than predicted. That happens often, but even more so, you wake up with the weatherman telling you it is going to be in the 50′s that day and then it never even breaks mid-30′s. Meanwhile you are freezing your pantyhose off! Another reason I chose socks.

The wedges give you the all day comfort of flats, but that little extra oomph that comes from heels. I see no reason to explain the hat, I just love them. For some reason I have the notion that a lady wears a hat. Probably from my love of old movies and the 50′s. Enough said. I also like how the bow on the hat is reminiscent of the bow on the wedge. The bright mustard handbag adds a current pop of color while maintaining classic detailing, pulling the look all together.

How about you? Is this a look you would be comfortable in? If so, where would you wear it? If not, stop back tomorrow to see a more trendy look I prepared based off of the same sweater for ModCloth’s Uniquely You campaign.

(See how I wore it here.)
