Mix and Match Double Batch with Pinterest Told Me To!

One of my besties Sheaffer at Pinterest Told Me To is my Mix and Match Double Batch friend today! As soon as I asked her to share a go-to Christmas recipe with me, she said this...

...her Brownie Trifle.
Hello yummy.
Nice to meet you.

A brownie trifle is perfect 365 days a year, so it's no wonder that Sheaffer calls this her go-to dessert. During the Christmas season, I decided to mix and match her recipe into a little holiday version...

...Peppermint Brownie Trifle.
Same great method but with a little holiday twist.
No matter which version you make, your friends and family will love it! You can serve them both in large trifle dishes (as Sheaffer did) or in individual dishes (like mine). Same method, same serving size (about 8 adults) and same great results.

Original Brownie Trifle Recipe
Shopping List: 1 box of brownie mix (she used Dark, Double Chocolate Chunk) plus ingredients to prepare 1 (3 oz) box instant chocolate mousse mix or instant chocolate pudding mix (plus ingredients to prepare) about 4 toffee bars to be crushed (like Heath Bars) 1 (12 oz) container of Cool Whip
Prepare brownie mix and bake according to package directions. Allow to cool and then crumble into a large mixing bowl.
Prepare pudding or mousse mix according to box directions. Chill.
Place half of the crumbled brownies into trifle dish followed by half of the mousse, half of the whipped topping and half of the toffee pieces. Repeat one more time ending on the whipped topping and garnishing with your remaining toffee pieces.
Chill at least 4 hours before serving (you can chill up to two days before serving if you like...this is a great make ahead dessert!).
Sheaffer said sometimes she even drizzles a little caramel sauce down in-between the layers for an extra bit of happiness too.

Simple, yummy and perfect for making ahead! Now, if you want to put a Christmas spin on things...here is how I mixed and matched it...

Peppermint Brownie Trifle
Shopping List: 1 box of brownie mix (she used Dark, Double Chocolate Chunk) plus ingredients to prepare 1 (3 oz) box instant chocolate mousse mix or instant chocolate pudding mix (plus ingredients to prepare) 1 teaspoon peppermint extract about 2 cups of peppermint crunch (found on the chocolate chip aisle) 1 (12 oz) container of Cool Whip
Prepare brownie mix and bake according to package directions. Allow to cool and then crumble into a large mixing bowl.
Prepare pudding or mousse mix according to box directions. Stir peppermint extract into mix and then chill.
Place half of the crumbled brownies into trifle dish followed by half of the mousse, half of the whipped topping and half of the peppermint crunch. Repeat one more time ending on the whipped topping and garnishing with your remaining peppermint crunch.
Chill at least 4 hours before serving (or longer).
Peppermint Crunch is found on the chocolate chip aisle during the holidays. If you can't find peppermint crunch, you can substitute with crushed up candy canes.

This trifle was a BIG hit at our house :).

Thank you so much to my sweet friend Sheaffer for sharing her recipe and allowing me to mix and match it! You can find Sheaffer every day at her fabulous blog Pinterest Told Me To and here too...
