LISTEN TO THIS: IRIS

Drummer for indie band Roads since 2006, Montrealer Iris Campo is launching her solo career in 2015, and this week, we got a first glimpse of her upcoming EP with the addictive pop single "I'll wait for you". I met Iris a long time ago, when we were both working at HMV (yes, that's right, I used to sell cds in my early twenties!) and I was very excited to hear her new song, and share it with you guys. While you press play above (and then press repeat and repeat), here's a little Q&A I did with the singer :
Q: What is the story behind your single, I'll wait for you ? A: I was going through a rollercoaster of emotions and changes in my personal life and that song came about effortlessly. It's when I understood that I couldn't be with someone because we both weren't in the "same place" emotionally. So for me, it's a song about growing and understanding that everyone has a different path in life and that we all have different needs. It's also about learning to respect that.
Q: What can we expect from your solo album ? A: At the moment, I'm working on putting together an EP so I will be releasing singles until then. It's going to be a collection of fun, melodic pop songs that's for sure!
Q: How did working on a solo project made you grow as an artist ? A: Well, I now write my own songs and hearing people's feedback and seeing how they react to my songs is insanely rewarding and it's pushing me to want to make more music, more than ever! I've also travelled to Nashville a few times to work on 3 of my songs and it has been incredibly inspiring. Being surrounded by amazing songwriters and musicians has definitely fed my creativity. It's been an incredible journey so far!
Q: Your musical inspirations ? A: Aerosmith is my all time favorite band. ABBA, Queen, The Beatles, Dio, Michael Jackson, Def Leppard, Fleetwood Mac, The Labyrinth soundtrack and The Beach Boys (to name a few) have had a massive influence on me. Katy Perry, Bruno Mars and Haim are my 3 favorite current pop acts.
Q: Favorite shopping spot in Montreal ? A: You know, I don't have one in particular. I'm very petite. Finding anything that fits right is almost like winning the lottery for me so when I fall madly in love with a piece from either a nice boutique or a thrift store, I make sure I get my hands on it! I am a little obsessed with make up though, I'm not going to lie. Going to Sephora or MAC is always exciting.
Q: What inspires your style ? A: My mood when I wake up. I can be very laid back or super glammed up. I love leopard print, sparkle, flowy clothes. I like a 70's vibe in general.
Q: Your latest fashion purchase ? A: A grey felt fedora by Ecote.
Q: Your favorite beauty product ? A: My Bite lipstick in Pastille Violet. When all else fails, there's nothing like a pop of color on the lips to make you look and feel awesome!
Q: Best place to get a drink in Montreal ? A: Sparrow
Q: Favorite restaurant ? A: Liverpool House

Make sure you keep that name on your musical radar come 2015! I can't wait to hear more from her!
