GIRLS WITH SKILLS: DOUBLE TROUBLE

Not just girls with skills, girls with MAD SKILLZ!! Motel meets Mali (sister of Calum Hood from 5SOS!) and Kylie, the two beauties that make up Double Trouble- Pro stylists by day and #POWERBABE DJs by night. Next step? “World domination” …thinking big Kylie? We like that.

HOW AND WHEN DID DOUBLE TROUBLE START?

K: In 2014 – from a mutual love of hanging out. We spend most of our time together and both enjoying DJing so we figured why not combine the two!

M: Double Trouble was born out of many tequila-infused nights to the tune of various 90’s anthems like

TLC “No Scrubs”. I’d just moved to the UK and found myself dancing on (and falling off) tables in East London. With my background in music and Kylie’s past as a DJ, we bonded over pop party anthems, old school hip-hop and classic rock. The natural progression was to tee up and slap a logo on something we both love- music, partying and a catchy chorus.

WHAT IS THE BEST PARTY YOU’VE PLAYED AT?

K: Reading festival. It’s been my favourite festival since I was an emo teen (not much has changed) so to finally play on stage where I had watched some of my favourite bands was an amazing, slightly terrifying, experience.

WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS FOR AN AWESOME NIGHT OUT?

M: Great company. Excellent music. No tears. Dancing shoes. (All can be traded for a night in with a bottle of red and Italian)

AS WELL AS BEING AWESOME DJS, WE KNOW YOU ARE SUPERSTAR STYLISTS TOO – WHAT’S THE BEST THING ABOUT WHAT YOU DO?

K: I like that every day is different. You might be planning a shoot with a rapper then shooting in a house filled with lizards the next (both things have actually happened). It means you never get bored! Working for yourself and getting to play dress up each day is a bonus.

M: When it comes to music, the best thing is making something out of nothing and nailing it.

WHO WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO WORK WITH?

K: Marilyn Manson or Lil Wayne.

M: Max Martin, a Swedish songwriter who’s just won a shit load of Grammys and has had 54 top 10 songs in his lifetime (just the one would be nice… write with me plz?).

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?

K: Whatever I’m feeling that morning. I think it changes quite a lot. But I’m a big lover of a co-oord or a stupid t-shirt.

M: Some days call for heels, others sneakers, some boots. I adore hats, ripped jeans and mostly dresses. My style’s always changing, but remains comfortable (relatively) and effortless (cool? I hope).

DESCRIBE EACH OTHER IN 5 WORDS?

K: Mali is… loud, funny, outgoing, pretty and mad

M: Kylie is… Funny, loving, clumsy, trendy, babing-babe (one word)

YOU’VE STYLED UP SOME GREAT MOTEL LOOKS IN YOUR SHOOT, WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT THE BRAND?

M: We love the variety of textures and prints. It’s good for both of us- I love pinafores, little dresses and high waisted pieces and Kylie’s a major fan of the fitted, printed co-ords. Covers us both perfectly.

WHO ARE YOU STALKING ON INSTAGRAM?

K: Everyone. Not really, Lindsay Lohan mainly. Have a huge girl crush on her.

WHAT SONG NEVER FAILS TO MAKE YOU DANCE?

K: Anything by

M:

Earth Wind and Fire,”September” or anything Jamiroquai, TLC, Britney and 90′s.

WHAT’S YOUR GUILTY PLEASURE?

K: I’m basically addicted to crime documentaries. I used to want to be a spy so I think it’s stemmed from that.

M: Eating. I enjoy the taste of food so much, I find it really hard to turn down a triple carb meal, or any kind of meal for that matter. Would eat Burritos forever if I could…

WHAT’S NEXT FOR DOUBLE TROUBLE?

M: Plenty of hard work followed by plenty of vodka lime sodas.
