GIRLS WITH SKILLS: OLIVIA-FAYNE LAMB
Olivia-Fayne Lamb is a gal that more than deserves to be on our Girls with Skills list. She is the creative talent behind Olivia-Fayne Tattoo Design which offers a personalised tattoo designing service. All of her creations are unique and one of a kind, and we love her distinctive style. Did we also mention that she is totally drool worthy, and we’re girl crushin’ on this babe and her super cool style! We recently caught up with her to get to know more all about life behind the scenes.
TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF?
Firstly I’m a Yorkshire lass somehow without the accent?! And my name is weird – cheers parents. Jee, it’s never easy to describe yourself! My close ones would probably say I’m very much ‘what you see is what you get’.. I’m a nice little tin with a label that says ‘rather opinionated (sometimes TOO unafraid to speak her mind and just throw it out there!)
WHAT’S THE BEST THING ABOUT WHAT YOU DO?
I’d have to say the best thing about what I do its the fact that my artwork is on someones body and that’s a compliment in itself and secondly (sorry to add another :p) – the emails I receive from all over the world thanks to the power of the all-mighty internet! Brazil, China, Canada, America, Germany, Australia and more! It’s crazy! Never could have dreamt it.
HOW DID YOU FIRST GET INVOLVED WITH TATTOO DESIGN?
Well, in the majority of photos from my childhood days I either have pencils behind my ears or a paintbrush in my hand… art has always been my escape. Many restaurants in Leeds were ‘blessed’ with drawings of food and god knows what else when I was little.
WHO ARE YOUR BIGGEST ARTISTIC INFLUENCES?
Charmaine Olivia has to be one of my biggest influences… although she is a painter and I am mostly a pen and pencil kind of gal…I’m a SUCKER for colour and do like to dabble in other materials, so whenever I have the urge to diverse I have a sneaky peak at her Instagram and it just sets me off. She’s brilliant. And I would LOVE to design a tattoo for her, I really think she would suit my designs!
TOP 5 WORDS THAT DESCRIBE YOUR DESIGN STYLE?
Hand-drawn I shall be counting that as one, screw the technicality, my customers usually use the words ‘inspiring’ ‘magical’ ‘unique’ and ‘personal’ so thanks guys!
Theres a lot of people I would love to work with, but to name a few brands I would love to collaborate with.. Urban Outfitters.. Topshop, rat and boa, Motel Rocks (obviously), La Moda, most fashion brands out there at the moment to be honest I would love to work with and come up with a design for an item of clothing or accessory. They all have something different to offer so would be nice to be a part of that.
FASHION LOVES AND FASHION HATES?
One thing I love about fashion is how much the trends change from season to season, and the thing I hate is how models have to be 36475ft to model… I know so many quirky looking girls who aren’t tall but could thrive in the industry but aren’t allowed because of their height. I even gave it a go myself a few years ago and didn’t do too bad but the height was always the one problem so I got my art tattooed on my body instead. I also think more tattooed girls need to be used in modelling because tattoos are fashion especially at the moment!
ANY GUILTY PLEASURES YOU’D CARE TO SHARE?
1) Going down the stairs on my bum when no ones around (brings me back to childhood-the good old days…sigh) 2) Taking a bite of chocolate at the same time as munching ready salted crisps..(you should try it!) 3) Salt on cucumber, and honey on potatoes.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT MOTEL?
I LOVE the mystical vibe at the moment, the moons and stars are a big thing of mine! So hands up to the magic!
WHAT ARE YOUR TOP 5 FAVOURITE MOTEL ITEMS (AND WHY)?
1. The Gabby Sequin Dress - I’ve had mine for a LOOOOWWWWNNNGG time, it’s timeless – I love it. Also an added bonus is that I resemble a mermaid when I wear it and that’s always a good thing.
2. The Sian Strappy Dress in Wild Animal Print because it’s playful and would looks cute with a matching scrunchie
3. The Versa Mesh Swimsuit – hey there that is one sexaaaay item.
4. Congo Textured Jumper - that will definitely come in handy for the arctic weather we’re about to receive.
5. Macau Wrap Crop Top - LOVE the shape.
WHAT’S COMING UP NEXT FOR OLIVIA-FAYNE MARTINIQUE LAMB?
At the moment I’ve just set up another business called ‘Wanderlust City’. It’s mainly home decor and accessories – we make a certain number of the items to insure the customer has something not many others have which is always nice, but it means they have to get in quick before they’re gone! You can find us on instagram too: wanderlustcityuk - website is still going under construction. The aim is to be able to eventually have a small shop! On the personal side me and my love have put an offer down on a house so I can have a proper studio, and then its only a matter of time until we get our English Bull dog Winston and little basset hound Luna! We’ve got it all planned out :p
DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR ANYONE WANTING TO GET INVOLVED IN TATTOO DESIGN?
PREPARE YOURSELF! You will get the odd person on their high horse slating what you do, but it’s okay because when people show green it only means one thing and they are the ones who end up looking like silly billies… just keep going, let them motivate you! Also, its not the easiest thing to work out what the customers want, because its not physically possible to be in their mind and see what they are trying to describe exactly. So make it very clear what the final idea is when communicating because if not it can get very time consuming.
