Living in my childhood bedroom – an update

As most of you will know, Amy and I moved back to Germany after her dad and I split up in summer. My parents came and picked us up in Bristol in November, helped me to get the house up to scratch for the next tenants and really helped us make the move a lot easier. Not only practically, but also from an emotional point of view.

I have lived in Bristol for a little over 6 years and while my life without the presence of my family wasn’t always easy, especially during the last year, I loved living in Bristol. It’s a wonderful city and I could really see myself growing old there: You have all the benefits of city life like a great cultural scene, fabulous shopping facilities and lots of things to do for children while also being close to the countryside for fun and play in the woods or by the seaside.

Unfortunately, things didn’t work out the way I had hoped and so Amy and I are currently living in my childhood bedroom. At the moment, it’s not a problem and luckily my parents and I are getting on well, so we’re not getting on each other’s nerves yet, but I would really love to find a new home from Amy and I.

We’ve already looked at a flat, but it doesn’t have a kitchen (in Germany it’s quite common that you buy your own kitchen when you move into rented accommodation and then either take it with you when you leave or sell it on to the next tenant) and we still haven’t heard, if we’ll be able to get it.

It’s in a small block of six flats and is newly renovated with laminate flooring in the bedrooms and living room and tiles in the hallway, kitchen and bathroom. It’s light and airy, has a balcony and is in the perfect location for a stress free school run as the nursery, all three schools, two gyms and the athletic track are only a 5 minute walk away.

We’ll hopefully find out, if we can start buying new furniture over the next couple of weeks. Until then, we’ll continue to sleep being watched by Furbies and the massive Kurt Cobain flag in my old walk-in wardrobe that’s filled to the brim with puzzles and board games that I couldn’t let go off when I was a teen.
