Musical Mondays: In the Blue

Do you ever think about the places where or the people who you've left pieces of your heart with? I know, it's a bit of a cheesy sentiment and of course you can't really leave pieces of your flesh and blood organ anywhere without dying, but even though it's cheesy-the sentiment remains for a reason. They talk about how you never get over your first love, but perhaps you never fully get over anyone you truly love. You leave little bits and pieces of yourself with them; pieces that when missed bring on waves of nostalgia and the occasional longing.

Sometimes you recognize this in people before they leave your life. I think those times might be a little bit harder. You see it in them, you know that when they go (for go they must) they're going to take a good chunk of your heart with them-and every now and then, in the future, you'll get that familiar pang when you think of them. On some hands it might help a little that you know it's coming. You can plan and prepare and guard yourself a little... But in the meantime it might hurt a little bit more since everything is colored by the thought that it could be the last time you see them, the last time you touch them... etc. That can be hard when you love someone, but you know eventually it must end.

However, there's a certain sweetness to it too. Sometimes when you realize that person has such a large part of your heart and will probably always hold on to a piece of you, it's easier to forgive. It's easier to keep them in a warm place of your memory and not become as angry or as bitter at them as some relationships end. It's a freeing feeling to know that you can love someone always, even if they're not with you, and still be able to love a new person when they come along. There's no depth or limit to the capacity we have for love, and that's a beautiful thing.

So today for Musical Mondays I chose the song In the Blue from Kelly Clarkson's new album Piece by Piece. The whole album is good, but this song in particular is one I've been listening to over and over, and it's invoked a few tears.

This weeks song: In the Blue by Kelly Clarkson
Some days I barely miss you Some days I'm almost alright And some nights I turn to kiss you but you're not beside my side Got this same damn conversation playing over and over in my mind... in my mind
Yeah my heart is wet and heavy but my body is on the run 'Cause the night is gonna get me and it's only just begun I keep living on the memory of you and me You me and the sun... in the sun
No matter where you are a little piece of my heart will be forever with you In the blue... In the blue... In a thousand years we'll be far from here I'll be forever with you in the blue... in the blue...
Yeah I'm running from this city like a diamond in the sky And I'm trying to count my blessings instead of all the tears I've cried I keep driving in this darkness to get you To get you off my mind... off my mind
I'll start over in a new place, put my feet back on the ground Can't believe the mess that I've made just trying to drown you out Maybe one day I wont miss you I'll stop looking for you in the crowd... In the crowd
No matter where you are a little piece of my heart will be forever with you In the blue... In the blue... In a thousand years we'll be far from here I'll be forever with you in the blue... in the blue...
I see your face in every stranger Footsteps down the hall Warm breath back of my neck Shadows on the wall And your voice as loud as thunder I can hear it crashing in my head Yeah
No matter where you are a little piece of my heart will be forever with you In the blue... In the blue... In a thousand years we'll be far from here I'll be forever with you in the blue... in the blue... I'll be forever with you in the blue... in the blue...
