Hello Everyone!

Today I’ve got an exciting new collection to share with you. This is a first for Rescue Beauty Lounge and I’m happy to be able to announce this joint venture, the R29 Rescue Beauty Lounge collection! Ji teamed up with the folks at Refinery29 to create this collection of 7 new shades for the fall season. The special thing about this collection is that each polish was created as a “dream polish” by 7 different teams over at R29. You can see everything Ji has to say about the collaboration on this blog post here, and also what Refinery29 thinks as well. Now let’s take a look at the new colors!

Elvis In The Cloud (Tech Team)

Apparently this color required the most amount of color mixing in the history of RBL. It certainly paid off because Elvis In The Cloud is a stunner! In the bottle I was admittedly concerned because it looked a wee bit too frosty for me. But once I applied 3 coats, I was pleasantly surprised by the red-orange to copper-gold color shift! And this is with NO black base coat, which is almost a requirement with most multi-chromatic nail polishes in order to see the color shift. I could see myself wearing this one a lot.

Galaxy Glue (Creative Team)

Galaxy Glue is really intriguing. At first it looks quite frosty in the bottle, as I was mislead in the same way by Elvis In The Clouds. But on the nail this one is a subtle multi-chrome. It shifts from a dusky teal blue with grey flash, to a brighter true metallic turquoise depending on the lighting. It’s quite sheer though, so I needed 4 coats. I did try this one out with 3 coats over a black base to see if it would make the color shift stronger, but it really made such an insignificant difference that I didn’t feel it was necessary to photograph the evidence. Plus I bet Pam at Polish Police has got me covered for nail polish comparison photos!

Bubblegum Punk (The News Team)

Bubblegum Punk is a fun rainbow shimmer topper nail polish that can look quite nice on its own if layered a bit. Shown here is 4 coats. I think this would be a great bridal look for a little play on a plain french tip or neutral nail deal. ^_^ I decided to layer this one with the jelly-cremes in this collection as well, so those swatches will follow.

Sunny Skies (Health and Wellness Team)

Ji describes Sunny Skies as a “sea glass green” and I can definitely see that, but the blue undertone really comes through with my skintone. I absolutely ADORE this color, it’s right up my green loving alley. The jelly-creme formula is my favorite to work with, so squishy and easy to layer! This is 3 coats.

And here’s Sunny Skies with 1 coat of Bubblegum Punk layered over it. Perfection. ♥

All About Yves (Fashion Team)

Helllooo IKB: 2012 Lovers!! If you missed out on that beauty, then you most definitely need to get your mitts on All About Yves. This color is absolutely EVERYTHING. Ji said that this is exactly like the sold out IKB: 2012 but just a smidge darker. Easily my favorite shade of medium blue combined with that jelly-creme finish, shown here is 3 coats. Easy application, just like with Sunny Skies, it builds up with each layer.

And here is All About Yves with 1 coat of Bubblegum Punk. Even MOAR perfection.

Pretty Gritty (Beauty Team)

Pretty Gritty is a stunning mauve with a strong tarnished gold shimmer throughout the nail polish. I love it! This one was opaque in almost 1 coat, but I did 2 to even things out since my nails are on the long side. This one reminds me of one of my all time favorite nail polish oldies, Arabian Night by Sally Hansen. ^_^

Better Than Boyfriend Jeans (The Shopping Team)

Better Than Boyfriend Jeans is a pale blue jelly-creme with grey undertones. I had the most trouble with getting this one even, but since it’s a rather pastel leaning color I wasn’t too surprised by that. This is 4 coats, and I could still see a little bit of uneven coverage but it didn’t really show on camera. Maybe it would have leveled out at 5 coats, but that’s just too much for me.

I do however LOVE Better Than Boyfriend Jeans layered with 1 coat of Bubblegum Punk. The rainbow flecks in Bubblegum Punk really pop when layered over this light blue shade.

Final Thoughts:

Overall I really enjoyed this collection! The only nail polish in the bunch that gave me any trouble with application was Better Than Boyfriend Jeans, and that might have been user error since I really didn’t wait very long between coats like I normally do since I was on a time crunch. My top picks from the R29 Rescue Beauty Lounge collection are Sunny Skies, Pretty Gritty, All About Yves and Elvis In The Cloud.
