First 5K Training Tips

These first 5K training tips have been compensated by #CollectiveBias, Inc. and SMS Audio #BioSport. All opinions are mine alone.

Last year when I turned 29 I made it my goal to run my first 5k before I turned 30. I turn 30 in May, and at the end of last year I still had not started training! Opps. The past couple of weeks I have started training and I still have plans to run one before I turn 30. One piece of the puzzle on why I actually started training are these new SMS Audio BioSport In-Ear Headphones. They are fusing fitness with technology for a smarter workout. I put together these 5K training tips, so that maybe it would help you train for a 5K, if you haven’t participated in one before.

First 5K Training Tips

Make a 5K Playlist

First, put together an awesome playlist. You will want upbeat, enjoyable music to keep you going. Here are a few of my favorites.

Wear Comfortable Shoes

Shoes can make all the difference. Go to a running store and get fitted for shoes. I haven’t done this yet, but plan to very soon. We just don’t have one close to us.

Stay Hydrated

You will want to drink plenty of water before, during and after you run. You need to replenish from the sweat that your lost.

Install RunKeeper App

The RunKeeper App has built in 5K training programs (along with other programs). Get a free trial of RunKeeper Elite with purchase while supplies last. The RunKeeper Elite has a few more 5K training program options.

The app will tell you when to run and when you have your walking break. It starts spreading out your breaks the further you get into the program.

Buy Comfortable Headphones

The SMS Audio BioSport In-Ear Headphones are a one-device workout accessory for ultimate comfort. Intel and SMS Audio have partnered to fuse fitness with technology by combining the latest in fitness-monitoring biometric technology with high-quality audio and style. Once you have RunKeeper App installed, all you have to do is plug in your headphones, and open the RunKeeper App. I have an android phone, so they synced up right away. If you have an iPhone go to Apps, Services, and Devices. Then select Devices and click on Analog Headphones. It will sync from there.

They come with three different size ear gels (S, M, L). I have tiny ears so I picked the smalls and they fit great. The ear-wing part you see in my ear helps them stay put for continuous, real-time heart rate monitoring. I love that these monitor my heart rate without having to wear a chest strap. Bye, bye chest strap. Glad I won’t have to wear you any more!

You never have to worry about charging because BioSport includes technology that enables the 3.5mm gold-plated audio jack to power the headphones. BioSport is ultra-durable with a 40U-rubberized coating to resist chipping and scratching. The headphones are IPX4-rated for protection against sweat and resistance to water.

In addition to all of that, if you happen to get a call while running just move the slider down to answer and talk. When you are done just slide it back up where the heart is closest to the dot to resume heart rate monitoring.

I found my SMS Audio BioSport Headphones in the front of our Dick’s Sporting Goods in the case with the other active technology products.
