Chloe Perrin Denounces Plasticky Leather: And Loves Madeleines Before Noon

Chloe Perrin of Perrin Paris came to visit us to tell us all about really good leather, among other things. Turns out Perrin is a foodie at heart; her penchant for Parisian bistros, truffled pasta and madeleines before noon had us hungrier than ever before the interview had even finished. She took us through all things Perrin Paris, achieving a ‘French girl’ look and how to spot good leather…

From start to finish, what would be your ideal food day?

Chouquettes and coffee for breakfast, then something healthy with carrot juice for lunch, and truffled pasta with Chianti for dinner with my dad, at Le Perron in Paris.

How do you practice beauty from the inside out?

I just avoid industrial foods with weird chemical ingredients I can’t pronounce. I also eat smaller portions and always take my time, enjoying every mouthful. Friends of mine have complained that I eat too slowly. Oh well.

What are your morning and nightly beauty routines?

In the morning I love to stretch like a cat. At night I slather my face with fragrant moisturizer and sip hot herbal tea in bed.

What’s your morning food/coffee routine in Paris?

Systematically; A cup of cafe au lait, a glass of orange juice and a madeleine or some other sweet thing that’s in my cupboard. I never feel like savory foods before noon.

Favorite restaurants in Paris & NYC…

My top three in Paris are Le Voltaire (for it’s old school charm, and because I live above it), Le Chateaubriand (for a six-course menu that leaves you feeling…happy), and La Laiterie Sainte Clotilde (my favorite neighborhood spot for casual dinner with a girlfriend).

In New York, La Grenouille, Sakagura and Wallsé.

Three tips to achieve a ‘French girl’ look…

You need one strong vintage item, skinny jeans, a pair of ballet flat and voila!

The first thing you notice about leather…

Its quality.

Signs that something is good leather…

You can tell by the way it feels, the way it smells, and by how it ages. If it feels too “plasticky” then it’s probably been coated with layers of chemicals that won’t stand the test of time.

Your favorite type of luggage…

I love to travel light. I always have my little black wheeled Rimowa carry on and a Perrin Paris tote.

One item every woman should own…

A Perrin Paris clutch and a beautiful pair of gloves.

What’s always in your bag? What won’t you travel without?

I always have my Bose earphones in my purse because I can’t walk long distances or take the metro without good music.

Words to dress by:

Don’t take yourself too seriously.

If you could host a dinner party with any five people, living or dead, who would be there? What would you cook?

It would have to be a bilingual dinner! I would invite; Catherine Deneuve, Martin Margiela, Martha Stewart, Voltaire and Urs Fischer.

I would attempt making the Lobster Ravioli from La Grenouille as a starter, followed by Sole “meuniere” with garlic green beans, and finally profiteroles for dessert (a sort of French ice cream sandwich but more delicate)!
