DIY Anthropologie Byzantine Floral Choker

A few weeks ago I spotted the Byzantine Floral Choker necklace online at Anthro and fell in love with the design. What I did not fall in love with was paying $58 for a necklace made of metal and plastic (yes, plastic). I realize in Anthro-land that's practically a bargain buy compared to some of their other jewelry, but still. Anyways, I absolutely knew I could come up with a DIY version and even had some beads that same green color.

I'm so happy with how it turned out! Here's how I made it.

String six beads onto several feet of fishing line and tie them into a circle, leaving a couple inches of string on one side and the rest of the string on the other. (Note: might be overboard on the length, but better too have too much than not enough). Weave both ends through a couple beads. String one more bead, bringing it to the center, and take your thread through the bead on the opposite side.

I am much more of a visual person, so for these next few I tried to draw the path of the string so it's easier to see what I'm attempting to explain with words.

String 8 small beads, wrap them around the large bead to their right, and then take your thread through the large bead you just wrapped around. (This should leave your thread exiting the same place it did before this step). Go back through the first 3 small beads.

String 5 more small beads. Wrap them around the next large bead (going clockwise) and take the string through the large bead after the one you just wrapped around.

Add 5 more small beads and then go through the last 3 small beads from the previous step. Go back through the bead you just wrapped around, then through the next 3 small beads.

String 5 more small beads. Wrap them around the next large bead and take the string through the large bead after the one you just wrapped around.

Add 5 more small beads and then go through the last 3 small beads from the previous step. Go back through the bead you just wrapped around, then through the next 3 small beads.

String 2 more small beads, then go through the 3 small beads on the other side of the final large bead to finish. Go through these steps again so you have 3 beaded flowers.

Take the remaining length of your string and weave it through the original circle of beads a couple times, ending so you can tie it in a knot with the remaining inch or so of the thread left over from the first knot. Put a little glue on the knot.

Then, put some glue on the back of the center bead and place the spacer bead across it. Let this dry long enough to form a strong bond before moving on.

Add 3 jump rings to each end of the spacer bead on each beaded flower. Then, connect the flowers using one of the larger jump rings.

Once you have all three flowers connected, attach the chain to the jump rings on both sides.

To finish the necklace add a jump ring on each remaining end of the chain. Connect the lobster clasp the the jump ring on one of the ends. I added a little green bead to the other end because I happened to have one that matched.

All done!

BTW - I'm not sure why this necklace is called a choker, because it is about 19 inches long. So definitely not a super long, but too long to be a choker.
