The Mona Lisa Project at Solaire

The Mona Lisa Project has been on display at Solaire’s new wing since late November, but there was an Artists’ Night held on December 12—unfortunately, a Friday. A lot of artists and friends couldn’t make it, but then a lot were also able to, despite the unfathomable traffic. (Thank you, friends!)

In case you’re unfamiliar, a little background:

The Mona Lisa Project is a collection of pieces inspired by the Da Vinci masterpiece. Mona Lisa also happens to be my mom’s name, so this tiny idea of maybe getting local artists’ interpretation of her namesake kind of snowballed into what is now an 83-piece collection—also thought to be a love letter of sorts from my dad, who funnily enough, doesn’t have a piece on display.

The original batch, which had a great deal less pieces, was shown at the CCP sometime in 2013. This iteration with the new, additional work, was curated by Nilo Ilarde, who also curated the first exhibit at CCP.

I’m not going to post a lot of photographs, since frankly, I didn’t get to take very many. I will be going back for the egress, though, so expect a few more photos after the duration of the show.

In case you want to see The Mona Lisa Project for yourself, it will be up on display until January 15, 2014. Just look for the Oasis Garden Cafe, if you’re not sure where the “New Wing” is.

Again, I promise you more shots at a later date, though I think you have to promise me you’ll pass by Solaire once the Holiday Rush is over! Yes?
