Rose Bakery

I walked up and down Lexington Avenue looking for the entrance to the Dover Street Market and after making a call to find out where they were, I found the door on 30th Street, not on Lexington Ave. ARG.

After walking in, I turned right and lo and behold -- Rose Bakery. There's only table service so let them know you're there to get seated. A paper sheet is laid down on the table and an adorable water carafe and tiny water cup is placed on top.

For this afternoon tea break, I got a scone with clotted cream and house-made jam and a pot of loose leaf Genmaicha in a tea filter bag for $5. Tea here is from Harney & Sons and they are generous with the tea.

The scone is tiny and pricy at $4, but the portion size is good for a small bite and pretty darn tasty. The clotted cream had a crusty layer sitting on top so it looks like they scooped it into container and let it sit in the fridge. It tasted fine once I got rid of the top layer. The jam (which was really a jelly) was fantastic. (Know how to eat a scone properly?)

There was something magical about the combination of the scone and the Genmaicha. It was delicious and each enhanced the flavor of the other.
