How To Fix A Separated Zipper

The other day my son came home from school, his jacket zipped up. As I began to assist him in taking it off I realized that towards the bottom the zipper had separated. I zipped and unzipped for awhile until I slid it down and made him step out of it. This was not going to be as easy as I thought to fix. A little worse because it was a nylon zipper, and I could see the teeth pulling a bit and I was afraid of them breaking.

I head to the computer to How To Fix A Separated Zipper without doing any damage and found this simple tip…

There are a few ways to fix this, but this tip was easy with no damage done! Yay…this was a new coat!

As I said up zipped up and down but could not get the zipper down to the bottom with by sides equal. One side was longer than the other, and it would not budge.

I applied a decent amount of liquid dish soap to the longer side of the zipper, making sure the teeth were covered well and gave the zipper a good tug downwards. It instantly slid the zipper pull to the bottom aligning both ends. I thought this was a good start to saving the zipper!

Next, I turned the jacket inside out at the bottom and grabbed each side with both hands – thumbs on both sides of the zipper. I could not take a picture of that since I had a hand on the camera, but where my ring finger is where my thumb from my right hand was. I gave a few good tugs with my right hand holding the left steady and the zipper separated at the bottom!

Then rinse away and soap residue. I was so happy not to have to take any part of the zipper apart and thrilled to not have broken it entirely. You learn something new every day! Hooray!

Linking to these wonderful parties!
