Lines We Love: BAMS Moda

There’s a universal understanding of Italian craftsmanship. To most, it means quality, from the materials to the style, from bags to accessories. Or, in the case of BAMS Moda, shoes. The brand, made up of four young, brilliant Napolitan entrepreneurs, is a huge hit in the luxury footwear market. If you want resilient, beautiful slippers, these are your guys. Their ethos is simple – make exquisite, comfortable shoes from the best materials research can find, and heaps of passion, of course.

The materials are worth an extensive mention alone, though. The emphasis is on quality and Italian flair, so no fabric is left unturned. The result? A variety of textures, with the perfect understanding of flair and the different types of energy a shoe can have. There’s the repeated red geometric shape motif on their ankle boot, aptly titled ‘Optical’, and embroidered slippers called Dubai, reminiscent of old middle Eastern patterns. In the same breath, there are buttery soft silver lace-up boots (again brilliantly titled, ‘rock’), letting the pizazz of the metallic material do the wooing.

Both the FW14 and SS14 collections are carefully curated and only the best go forth. But that doesn’t mean the range is limited. The leathers include crocodile and sea snake, and some of the velvet pieces have hand cut swathes pieced against them. The SS15 offerings are simplistic – five slippers, each with island heels, different patterns and materials, and named after a city of the world. There’s Monte Carlo, with its luxurious burgundy leather, preceded by Cape Town, all patchwork shape embroidery, and then ‘Londra’, with it’s classic pony skin exterior, available in luxe city hues.

The foursome begin their creative process building the lining of each shoe ‘like a glove’ – the perfect approach to comfort and quality. Each shoe moves with the foot, adapts to it. Basically, it becomes the go-to shoe in your wardrobe. As they say, a real Italian handicraft.
