As you walk down the unsuspecting quiet cobble stone of North Moore street in Tribeca make sure to keep an eye out for a green banner and adorable chalk board stationed outside our favorite place to get a mani/pedi in all of New York City, Plaza M. First opened by owner Min Song, his priority was to create a space that separated itself from the typical salon and spa that anyone could walk into, “I wanted to create a trendy spa where there was modern decor and cool music, something different for the chic customer (like Olivia) to enjoy”. With his unique selection of products and an extremely friendly staff, eight years and four locations later, his aesthetic has clearly been welcomed with open arms by New York’s (and many world travelers) finest.
When you walk into the newest location on 64 N. Moore st. there is an overwhelming calm that comes over you. The salon is very open and airy, with high ceilings and minimal accents full of natural materials and colors (blues, beiges, stone) for decor – Min specifically picks the wood and each product that is put into his salons – allowing for his aesthetic to transpire seamlessly. Music flows throughout the space, typically Japanese hip-hop on low volume, bringing the vibe full circle.
As you walk along the top floor the feeling is understated yet chic. Along the right side are large cushioned love seats perched high so your feet can dangle into the steel and white colored marble sinks for the pedicure of your dreams while white sleek organically shaped tables are assembled on the opposite wall for those seeking the perfect manicure (aka the Plaza M Spa Manicure). Down the staircase below the loft are two secluded hallways with candle-lit rooms tucked away for spa services like full-body massages and facials that extend to special skin care services like their “Walking On Sunshine” (organic naseberry body wash, refreshingly cucumber mint scrub and exfoliate with 15 min hot stone reflexology) or the “Sunday Morning Spa” (organic pear and apple body wash, scrub and exfoliate, mango enzyme mud, 20 min deep reflexology w/ EOSC stone crop lotion, mimosa champagne body oil and 5 min. neck and shoulder massage).
Other than the decor and vibe of Plaza M another factor that differentiates this salon from the thousands of others that scour our ever growing metropolis are the ultra organic and skin friendly products that are used and are available for purchase. The line is called “Eminence” and are friendly enough so that they’ve created specific services utilizing the products like the Rosacea & Sensitive Skin Facial, Acne Facial and Anti-Aging Facial based off of them. The Eminence products infuse ingredients like aloe-vera, tea tree oil, chamomile, stone crop, plum puree, black elderflower, yarrow plant, ground ivy and so much more to create the ultimate in everything from natural masques and creams to lip balms, lotions and peels making them a fabulous choice for anyone to use but particularly special for those that are pregnant.
