Runway Report: Preen by Thornton Bregazzi Fall 2015

Citing inspiration from Karen Carpenter and Sonic Youth, Preen design duo Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi dreamed up visions of ‘dark romance’ for FW15. In stark contrast to the lit white tube station backdrop, the show opened with remixed visions of multi-hued buffalo plaid, romanticized with ruffles and floral abstractions. The high-fashion nod to grunge soon gave way to looks of full-blown primary-hued blooms, balanced with laced up black boots and whip-stitched details.

Blocked-out patchwork lace was accented with pop-colored piping and tactile beaded embellishments, while hints of skin peeked out from sheer panels and between grommet-bound laces adding contemporary edge. Sculptural florals met a balance between craft and couture, adding a folkloric vibe imagined in yellows and blues, and utterly chic in white on white.

Bell sleeves and whispy hemlines channeled seventies bohemian, as did hair teased out in natural waves bringing to mind days spent by the windy shore. One things for sure, we’ll be dreaming of that finale floral number from now until the MoMA garden party.
