Showered With Love

Late Saturday morning, my mom and sister hosted a beautiful baby shower to honor our little one and we celebrated with a bunch of my closest friends at Alton’s Kitchen, a warm and comfortable restaurant located just north of Charlotte in the lakeside town of Cornelius.

Right after I arrived, it became quite clear to me that they poured a ton of time and effort into planning everything and the upstairs loft of the restaurant was decorated with mint green and peach (I have a bit of a mint green obsession) and simple, beautiful decorations like small vases of baby’s breath and fun striped straws.

Baby’s breath for a baby shower! I love it!

I arrived at the shower with a carload of some of my best friends from college who were staying at our house for the weekend and had fun introducing everyone to Charlotte-area friends, blogger buddies (Brittany, Alyssa and Brittany – Thank you to Brittany and Alyssa for making the drive over from Richmond!) and my Girls On The Run co-coaches.

It was a great group of women who mean to much to me!

My friend Leah gave birth at the end of March and said she was happy to pass all of the awkward belly photo ops along to me. Haha!

We spent the first 30 minutes or so of the shower sipping on wine (lemon water for me) while people decorated tiny diapers with words of wisdom, meant to make Ryan and me smile during middle-of-the-night diaper changes.

Words for the Wee Hours

A word of encouragement, a chuckle or two

Give the new mom and dad a note just from you

Pick up a diaper and write a note on the booty

Something to take the mind off the doody

Soon it was time for lunch! We had a selection of chicken chopped salad, fish tacos and glazed salmon to choose from and ate our meals while chatting at the table before it was time for a few fun games.

The first game was a matching game where everyone had to match the baby-related words on the left of the poster with the corresponding candy bar on the right side.

(Example: Baby giggles = Snickers)

It was a fun one and over the course of the rest of the weekend, everyone staying at our place made their way through the candy bars for a “candy bar tasting” of sorts that was oddly amusing. (I had never tried a Skor bar or Watchamacallit before! As it turns out, Skor bars are delicious.)

Game number two was another brain teaser. Bags decorated with B-A-B-Y F-A-G-A-N were filled with a baby item that matched the letter on the bag. (Example: One “B” bag had a burp cloth in it.)

Everyone had to fill out a guess for each letter (it didn’t necessarily have to be in the item in each bag – if you got one of the “B” items correct, that counted!) and it was really tough! I think I only guessed two items correctly, but the winner only got six, so it was a challenge but it definitely made everyone laugh a lot as I pulled items out of each bag and we heard what people guessed!

The rest of my shower was filled with opening some of the most thoughtful gifts and eating a delicious lemon bundt cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes.

Thank you so much to my incredible mom and sister for hosting such a beautiful shower and to all of my friends for making me, Ryan and our baby boy feel so loved! The entire weekend meant so much to me.
