black is the new black

i love when i read (x) is the new black. however, i don't think any colour could replace black as the representative of chic, edgy, classic and fun all at the same time. i love prints and patterns but have written before how i always gravitate back to my fundamentals of neutrals - white, gray and black. what about you? do you have favourite colour schemes?
