Barry M Speedy Nail Paints

I’ve been told that these polishes have taken a while to produce because of UK regulations for quick dry ingredients, but I’m glad that Barry M finally have a quick dry range to add to their ever growing array of nail polish! Now, I feel like polish dries really slowly on me, so the Managing Director, Dean Mero, asked me to pay special attention to the drying time. I’ll comment on that and the formulas at the end of the post, for now though…PICTURES!

All of the swatches below are shown with a top coat using Barry M ‘Plumpy’, a new high gloss top coat.

‘Eat My Dust’ is a powdery, almost cornflower but not quite blue. It’s quite lovely.

‘Full Throttle’ really surprised me. You might know that orange is on my no-go list (unless it’s a halloween shade), but I did really love this colour.

‘In A Heart Beat’ is a nice juicy pink.

‘Kiss Me Quick’ your basic pastel pink really!

‘Lap of Honour’ is a lovely sweet lavender shade.

‘Pitstop’ is a difficult one to describe; sometimes grey, sometimes stone, sometimes leaning towards a muted mauve grey. I bloody love it though, whatever you want to call it.

‘Pole Position’ a minty-ish green.

‘Road Rage’ is a Tiffany blue, and definitely different enough to ‘Pole Position’ to warrant having both.

‘Stop The Clock’ a soft lemon yellow.

Formula

Overall, the formula is great, with the exception of ‘Stop the Clock’ but even that is pretty good as far as yellows go. Theres a little bit of the typical patchiness you get with pastel yellows so it did need 3 coats before it felt level. ‘Kiss Me Quick’ also needed three because it’s a little paler than the rest, but every other colour was two easy, smooth and lovely coats.

Quick dry

The first coat of all polishes was what I’d consider fast for certain. it was touch dry in no time and I don’t apply particularly thin coats. The second coat also felt quite quick – not F1 speeds but definitely quicker than standard polishes. The two that needed the third coat were the let downs though because by the third coat of any polish you’ve got a build up of not-perfectly-dry coats stacked on top of each other which leaves you with a touch dry but thick an squidgy finish underneath. Not terrible at all, but the quick dry aspects definitely lends itself better to the two coaters. So on the whole, I’m impressed.

Brush

These have a flat brush! It’s a=lovely to use and far better quality, and I’m told it will be a standard for future releases. You can check out a good image of the brush over at Brit Nails.

Plumpy

A great new top coat with a gel-like effect. Sort of defeats the ‘quick dry’ aspect of the colours, but it is a luscious looking top coat. Heads up Dean – you need to make a quick dry, high gloss top coat next please!

My picks: Pitstop, Lap of Honour, In a Heart Beat and Full Throttle – sorry I can’t cut it down any further, but if you get one
