Binky London ‘Coral’ and ‘Copper’

Binky London ‘Coral’ and ‘Copper’

I’m back after a crappy cold! Well, sort of. I currently have a huge tear in a nail on my swatching hand so once I runout of photos taken prior to that I might struggle a bit. There are some nail silks and resin on the way so in the mean time I’m using wearing a plaster as an excuse to get out of doing the dishes. So, what am I returning with? This is a new UK brand called Binky London, and I have a gel effect ‘Coral’ and metallic ‘Copper’ to show you.

I’m just going to get one thing out of the way before getting on to the polishes themselves. The woman behind this brand is from Made In Chelsea. I’ve seen about 3 minutes of this show and felt dumber for having done so. I can’t stand it, I don’t understand it, and if you were to ever bring it up in conversation I’d probably think less of you for it. So, a rich socialite launches a nail polish range in the UK, should mean good things, right? Well, erm no.

‘Coral’ is supposed to be a gel effect polish. I think the lab need to try Barry M Gelly polishes and see what the bench mark is for affordable gel like polishes because this was a nightmare. I love being able to bring lovely and quality products to readers of Polly Polish. Partly because I have so many polishes that I’ve not tried that I frankly don’t have much time for rubbish polishes, but also because it’s so much nicer to write happy smiley posts. Despite my feelings about the whole crappy ‘dramality’ background to this brand, I wanted to be on board with it because the price point seemed reasonable and the idea of any brand starting out in the UK excites me. ‘Coral’ was difficult to handle and the end result is clearly bubbly/clumpy. A gel effect should be gloriously smooth but this just made me cranky.

Binky London ‘Coral’

Thankfully ‘Copper’ did lift my spirits a little bit. This is one coat with a top coat, and the formula was actually excellent. Super smooth and easy to control. I couldn’t make my mind up about the colour. It does look pretty awesome in the photos, but it felt incredibly old fashioned. Not so much in a cool vintage polish sense but more in a daggy sort of way, I’m on the fence with this one but definitely far happier than with ‘Coral’!

Binky London ‘Copper’

So, ‘Copper’ was alright, but if you’re going for a gel effect polish, I’d recommend looking elsewhere, specifically at Barry M, but even Models Own Hyper Gels are leagues ahead of this. If metallics are your thing then ‘Copper’ might be an indication of better things.
