Movie Bits & Bytes

Work has been ramping up again, or rather I’ve been more social than usual and included in that is a new movie club I’m co-hosting (first film was Gone Girl on the weekend just past) HEAVY film to introduce, right?!

There’s a few other films I’ve seen recently that I just haven’t had the time to share properly but are definitely notable in their own right, and you may see at least a couple in my end of year favourites. So stay ‘tuned’. Or rather, bookmark me. :)

Step Up: All In; – this was a good lot of fun! Still better than the 3rd one; though not as fun as the 4th; and you know, it made me want to dance along to Bobby Brown’s Every Little Step SO. MUCH. And MOOSE! Still love ‘im!

Boyhood; What an experience; this is an event film. Its grand to go in blindly; but everyone that watches it will take away something different, relate to something different. In the top five of the year. I feel as if I watched a documentary. If I saw the lead actor Ellar Coltrane on the street, I would honestly believe I watched him grow up.

The Maze Runner; I haven’t read the book but I know its part of a series; Dylan O’Brien really proves his leading man chops here! I felt this was a fun young Indiana Jones adventure; fun for the family! The ‘greavers’ within the maze weren’t *too* scary but it was dark and jumpy! And it wasn’t about how the ONE girl in the movie was immediately paired with the leading man; it was in fact the bond between the boys altogether.

Bladerunner; My first in my movie sci-fi channel! (I know; I’m never in a rush, am I?) considering it was made in 1982; it really still holds up quite well. The set design is impeccable; even by today’s standards. Harrison Ford was handsome and hello, Sean Young; what a stunner! When they brought in the sax music, oh boy it really felt 80s; but I need to read up about the making of it now; how many different versions were there?!

Gone Girl; There will be a proper review for this I promise; this is just my first viewing, and I have to be completely honest; I’m on the fence. I feel a little.. disappointed.
Did I go in with entirely too much excitement, after reading the book (my non-spoiler review here) too much excitement that Ben Affleck was Nick Dunne, that David Fincher was directing? Possibly. I can’t fault the performances at all; Rosamund Pike was just breathtaking in her portrayal of Amy Elliot-Dunne. I would use other adjectives; but even that would be spoilery and I do NOT want to give you that. Just wait for the second viewing.

Julia and I discuss a movie or two.. or 4 in our latest podcast. You should check it out. No really. Go.

Any memorable movies you’ve seen lately?
