To Buy: Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Collection

I was going to title this ‘Wishlist’ but come on – I’m going to be buying this at my first opportunity. One of the major television events recently was the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary episode ‘ The Day of the Doctor ‘ – which featured not one, not even two but THREE doctors.

I won’t try to dissect the episode because at the best of times I need a debrief with fellow Whovians and lots of episode recaps to do that for me! (It takes a bit for the lightbulb moment)

To see Matt Smith (Eleven) and former Doctor David Tennant TOGETHER – I mean. It was iced vovos and kittens right there. It really was. And with this four-disc 50th Anniversary collectors set – you get a lot of the behind the scenes, inside the Tardis extras that we might not have been privy to see. Thrown in are throwbacks and featurettes to all of the other Doctors from when it was in black and white (whoa!).

As much as I began with Tennant (for a single intro episode) then started from Ecclestone (Nine) onwards; upon seeing one of the featurettes introducing each doctor and their quirks; and a fellow Whovian and I commented that we were both shocked at how curious and intrigued we were about the second doctor in particular; Patrick Troughton. It made us think hmm, could we used to all our fancy technology and love of special effects not available 50 years ago be worth watching? YES.

I popped in a disc when I was sent the preview set (sans artwork and all the prettiness you see here) and as I did I might have squealed a bit just seeing the readthrough for ‘the Day of the Doctor’. My little Whovian hearts were beating quite rapidly.

This boxed set of wonder and delight is available now on DVD and blu-ray wherever you are to be found swooning over the movies and TV you so adore. (Or where I am most weekends after payday)
