Makeup Geek Showtime Foiled Eyeshadow - Swatch and Review

I Purchased This Affiliate Link

Undoubtedly, the Makeup Geek Foiled Eyeshadows have been so long-awaited by the beauty community. Marlena shared swatches ages ago and damn near everyone was enticed by the incredible pigmentation of the eyeshadows. I got the shade Showtime as a Christmas present.

Where to Purchase: Makeup Geek Price: $9.99 for 1.8 grams/.064 oz of product Do they test on animals?: The company does not test on animals.
Packaging: The eyeshadows come in 26mm pan in a paper sleeve. The paper sleeve has accents of rose gold and black and the eyeshadows can be stored in any magnetic palette. Currently it's not available in a compact and since a few people have mentioned issues with them cracking during shipping, they might need a sturdier container.

Swatch:

The eyeshadow was applied with my finger without any primer. You can see that the swatch has some silver glitter (but isn't overly glittery).

Formula/Wear Time:

Makeup Geek describes the formula as "a creamy texture that is a hybrid between a powder shadow and a cream shadow that is on a level of its own. The intense pigmentation combined with an opaque, metallic finish make these shadows a dream to work with. These can be applied effortlessly in just one swipe with no primer required!"

The eyeshadow texture reminds me of the L'oreal Infallible Eyeshadows but the Foiled Eyeshadow is more dense, they're a bit creamy but are definitely a powder. Showtime is incredibly pigmented and I had no trouble getting it to look opaque. I also think application is pretty easy since there's less of a chance of fallout.

However, I had heard mixed reviews on the wear time of the foiled eyeshadows. Although everyone commends the formula for its incredible pigmentation and creamy feel, there's been a few who have mentioned issues with creasing and its longevity.

Without a primer, there was visible creasing after four and a half hours of wear. With a primer, there was only the beginning of creasing after eight hours. Although you don't need a primer to increase pigmentation, you most definitely will need it for longevity especially if you have hooded oily eyelids like me. It would be more accurate to say you don't need an eyeshadow base to increase the pigmentation of the eyeshadow.

Conclusion:

While the eyeshadow is fantastic for its incredible pigmentation and application (no fallout on me since it's got a creamy feel), it's not without its tradeoff. The wear time isn't that great for me unless I wear a primer however I never go without primer so it isn't a huge concern. I do think the claims for the formula should be changed though to emphasize that you don't need a base for pigmentation, not a primer. I did see in a recent Makeup Geek video that Marlena may be modifying the formula to counteract the creasing so I'm happy to see that everyone's feedback is being taken into consideration. I do plan on purchasing more, I'll just be sure to pair it with my eyeshadow primers.

There are new colors coming out soon and I hope they come out with a more refined formula.
