Build a Snowman with DIY Snow

Hey Ya'll! My name is Diane Roark. I blog about easy recipes to help you put dinner on the table quickly. I love those Southern recipes for special occasions too. Pour a glass of sweet tea, pull up a chair and let's talk recipes.

Do your kids love playing in the snow and building a snowman? Do you want to build a snowman? Build a Snowman with DIY Snow I saw on the Today Show.

This was the first snow fall on Christmas in Arkansas in over 80 years in December 2012. It was also our last big snow fall. A beautiful White Christmas. This was Cocoa, our lab’s, first snow fall. She loved it and so did my kids.

I saw this fake snow on the Today Show last week and had to give it a try. I have always lived in the south and most of the time in the deep south. My original home is Mobile, Alabama. We rarely get snow. I decided to make some fake snow. Caleb, my special needs son, had a blast playing with this snow. I encouraged him to use his hand with cerebral palsy and toss the snow around. He loved it. I placed the snow out on the kitchen counter for a few days. When Caleb would disappear, we knew he was in the kitchen playing with it.

This fake snow is easy to make with only two ingredients including baking soda and foam shaving cream. The Today Show did not give exact ingredients. I used a large box of baking soda and added a little bit of shaving cream at a time until I got it the consistency of snow. If you add a small amount of shaving cream, the snow is more like powder. If you add a lot of snow, it is more wet and easier to mold together in a snowball.

If you have small children or grandchildren who are bored on a cold day, whip up this easy to make snow for them to play in. I think the next time I try making this snow I will mix a larger batch in a large rectangle storage container. I might try storing in a container under my bed and see how long it will last.
