A Custom Order Baby Boy Quilt

And a Picture Post.

A custom order baby quilt for a very special baby boy; born early, fought hard to overcome many obstacles, and won. His mother has told me that they expect to be home soon, and that they both deserve a special treat. I can't begin to imagine how difficult their journey home has been and I hope that this quilt represents the comforts of home for both of them.

Although I was given free reign to create and use fabrics of my choice I was pleased to be given the following general guidelines: fresh, modern, but still sweet and nostalgic, the use of fabrics with letters and text, low volume fabrics and I-Spy elements, straight line quilting and striped binding. Perfect! A combination of all my favorite quilt elements.

I started the fabric selection process with a green/blue color palette and added red/yellow and a sprinkling of brown fabrics for warmth, and black/white prints for contrast. I think I've met the I-Spy, low volume and text fabric requirements. There is much to see and there are stories to be told.

All fabrics are from stash and include several of my hoarded favorite Japanese prints. For my fabric friends:

Lissa in Grey Cloud - Follie by Lotta Jansdotter :: Large scale grey gingham.
Countdown by Alexander Henry Fabrics :: Large scale black/white numbers.
Geekly Glass in Yellow from the Geekly Chic Collection :: Glasses in Yellow
Elk Family by Jay-Cyn Designs for Birch Fabrics :: Deer in Green and Grey
Spoonflower - Scandinavian Fish by Syko :: Low volume fish.

A great start to my week. More soon.

Rita
