Pregnancy Notes – First Trimester

Today I’m officially 16 weeks pregnant! While I haven’t been posting much here I’ve been jotting down pregnancy notes in my Evernote whenever anything comes to mind… So here are the few notes I had from my first trimester:

26 Nov. 2013. Made appointment with Dr. Benjamin Tham for 20 December at 12 noon. It’s a long time away and I’ll be in week 8 / 9 by then. In the meantime Rita helped me buy pre-natal supplements last night so I have those to rely on. I had to go to Redhill to sign some documents after work and met Robby at City Hall for dinner afterwards. We walked around Robinsons looking at some baby products and my left ankle was quite painful at the end of the day. I still don’t know what made the pain started again these past few days but it hasn’t been subsiding despite the cold compress at night.

27 Nov. 2013. I started having nausea yesterday, first thing in the morning and lasting till close to lunch time. Then it started again until around dinner time. And again at night. I could fall asleep pretty easily still though… but last night I woke up at 2am to pee (I tend to wake up at 7am needing the bathroom but recently it was earlier like 6am… and now in the middle of the night!) Anyway it was difficult to fall back asleep because of the nausea. Later I felt hungry and ate a slice of walnut bread with honey… these days I find even one slice of bread is too much to eat at one go. Weird. Anyway after that I still had some nausea but found sleeping on my left really help ease it. So after some time I fell back asleep and woke up already feeling nauseous. This time I ate another slice of walnut bread without the honey and had to ask Robby to finish off the last piece. The taxi ride was pretty rough this morning, and the sun was shining brightly, so I just kept my eyes closed and sucked on mints almost all the way… I made peppermint tea first thing after I reached the office. Ate some sweets, mints, the Lotte dark chocolate cubes… but right around 11am I noticed the nausea subsiding and I start feeling hungry instead. Funny how the baby / my body seems to know it’s time to eat and it’s good to have some food so better let the nausea disappear first. Trying to play a prank on me eh? Anyway despite the nausea I haven’t had to throw up so far… I really don’t want to. Anyway it’s now 11.42am and I’m feeling really really hungry like I need to eat NOW. I felt the same consistently in the past few days too. This thing really runs like clockwork. Wow… After a huge Thanksgiving lunch I felt like I was ready to explode. Full stomach nausea = exhausting. I still felt hungry for dinner though. Haha.

28 Nov. 2013. I have a presentation this afternoon so last night I was praying for the nausea eases off today so that I can do my presentation smoothly. Interestingly other than in the morning, I’ve been having pretty much a nausea-free day! Wonderful. Erm except the presentation had to be postponed to the next day. Chey.

5 Dec. 2013. My symptoms seem to change every few days. Either that or I don’t have much / pronounced symptoms, which sometimes worry me a bit. Like am I really pregnant?? Is everything going ok in there?? Let me see… so far I’ve had missed period and positive home tests (duh), some nausea though I haven’t had any vomiting yet thankfully, bloating, breast tenderness, fatigue / sleepiness earlier in the night, occasional food aversion towards meat or fatty or creamy things. Out of all these I’d say the bloating causes the most discomfort and at times even seems to induce the nausea (like right now!). Thankfully my sense of smell doesn’t seem to get any more sensitive than it already is – or I can’t imagine how annoying it’ll be. Just yesterday we had to put up with glue smell because of the construction work in the building. Blah. Other than that my mood seems to be pretty stable so far and I’m feeling generally happy and contented.

20 Dec. 2013. We went for our first gynae visit and finally got our first glimpse at our tiny, cute little baby! Seeing the ultrasound image on screen is really so exciting and I couldn’t stop smiling. I’m now officially 9 weeks and 3 days pregnant, with an estimated due date of 22 July 2014 (exactly the same as what the pregnancy app tells me… pretty cool huh?) and the baby is 2.75 cm. The app says he/she is the size of a cherry! Haha. Anyway I thought the shape is just so cute and we were lucky to catch some limb movements too… Robby shared the video to both sides of the family of course.

26 Dec. 2013. My appetite hasn’t been as good this week though I continue to eat normally. Plus I’ve been having headaches on and off since last weekend. It was so bad last Saturday night that I went home right after the caroling session ended without staying for dinner or chitchat.. Sigh. Typically my migraine headaches last through the night but I’ll be fine the next day. But nope. So on Sunday I took panadol twice but it kept coming back so I stopped taking any medication. Oh and the gynae did say most modern medication like panadol or flu meds from the GP is ok to take during pregnancy. Don’t worry

I feel that I don’t get much nausea but at the same time the bloating and headaches make me feel nauseous at times. Geez. But still no vomiting so far.

Oh yes I also notice my tastebuds change slightly. Now most savory food tastes less savory. I still taste the same amount of sweetness though. Weird.

Headache headache please go away… (don’t ever) come again another day…

27 Dec. 2013. I think for about a couple of days now my tastebuds have changed. Salty and savory flavors no longer taste as strong as they used to be. Everything tastes so muted except for sweetness. I don’t even enjoy the thought of eating meat! Geez. This morning I woke up feeling like I had been eating way too much salty chicken and just can’t stand the thought of having more of it. (When did I even eat salty chicken??) instead guess what I’m craving….

GADO GADO & TAHU GORENG

Wahahahahaha.

I have a feeling this baby has an A blood type. Recently I learned that the amniotic fluid tastes like whatever I just ate and of course the baby has started swallowing. Awww… How cute.

But this made me think.. If this is how A blood type people tastebuds are like, no wonder they’re not into meat at all. And how sad really. Because I know different kinds of meat and seafood should taste so much richer and better than they do to me now.. If only they knew… :p
